I seem to be at the modest and halfway reasonable end of the "none, too poor - 300+ VPS" axis, with 1 older but beefy dedi (shared with a friend & colleague) and a low 2 digits number of VPS, one of which is for business, none of which is to talk about or show (or flaunt) myself, one of which is for storage/backup, one or two are for dev. and/or testing on the (inter-) net, 2 of which are for MX, 5 of which are for NS and the rest are "just for fun", typically very good deals. Plus a few VMs on the dedi, mostly for dev/tech stuff.

Total cost (excl. dedi) in the low hundreds of $/€ per year.

But I'm quite well equipped in my office/lab, well, for my needs anyway.

Oh, and none of my servers carries more load than about 50% avg/month (and very few are (temporarily) idling).

P.S. thanks to @host_c's amazing promo I'll pay about $50 less next year, yet have way more storage volume. And thanks to @Hybula my techie need for "I need, I want, I must have some high end stuff, even if it's expensive - which thanks to some Hybula promos it's actually not; let's call it "still within a quite reasonable range", a bit like driving a Lambo for the price of a Mercedes-Benz taxi *g)

  • About 1500€/year. About 0.25% is for work-the rest goes to personal projects, which are currently covered by a monetized Facebook pages and AdSense.

  • I'm down to 10 or so, around $2k/yr. But I mostly use them for our business.

I have a few cheap yearly boxes but I use those mostly for the team for dev testing and things we don't care much about. If it's semi important it'll get put on one of our proxmox instances.

  • About 20 lowend + a big Azure prod stack.
Final number of lowend ones will be ~7.

  • I have one VPS that I use to run my personal services with Quadlet. It's a Greencloud anniversary VPS and is very much overkill.
It's also running my handcrafted scripts to mess around with OVH's API.

I have a VPS with 2Gb or RAM and 4 IPV4 that I use to play with GRE tunnels.

And now I have 2 adorable KS-LE-B (bought via the website, not the API) that are replacing my homelab. On these I plan to experiment with stuff. First experiment was iPXE.

I've a couple more cheap-ass VPS that are idling so I can feel at home in LET.
