Since FrankZ is mostly no show this time, I guess me and Dustin are gonna be the top competitors for the Gaming PC, atleast for the next few days.

You are probably winning the gaming pc

Win the gaming PC and use it to win next year giveaway.

LOL! Next year's gonna be crazier than this year. Next year maybe, Dustin should consider a handheld rather than a full ATX gaming PC. Might be cheaper and easier to transport.

I read this as you asking for a steamdeck 2 (if it's out by then)

Steam deck 2 will not come out next year I think but it is valve so who knows

Indiegogo companies seem to be doing a good job as well, but, most of them are Chinese.

    But steamdeck is best

Not a bad idea! What model is the go to?

The OLED version is strictly better than the older non-OLED models.

    yeah much better battery life

    Also 90hz refresh rate

yeah, I love my oled deck. Just wish it was encrypted storage so i could actually use it like a portable machine (I'll probably work on some encrypted container someday)

    Isn't it just Linux?

yeah but without bringing a keyboard with you, you can't really use luks (I guess with the last bios update, there's technically the virtual tpm one could use)

    Found this https://github.com/hirak99/steam_deck_encryption

Oh wow. I guess this keeps the Steam OS client intact.

Steamdeck would be awsesome. I have been wanting to get one for a while but just have not pulled the trigger yet. I want them to get a little more mileage on it.. I have the steam link and the steam controller and I was really disappointed they dropped those 2 so fast. Steam link is a nice easy way to get my library in multiple places in the house. I guess steam deck should also be able to accomplish that as well though.. Steam link was dirt cheap though

Would you still recommend SteamLink in 2024?

of course! I still use it often enough. Granted you cant run super demanding games on it, it works awesome for a majority of the games. Its really nice when you want to do a multiple player game and I have guests over. You dont have to huddle around a PC or sit near a tv that is wired upt to the PC. Just grab the controllers and start playing via steam link

isnt nvidia shield just better ?

Im really not sure. The steam link was just so cheap I never had a reason to look anywhere else. The only way to decide is if i tried both but im at a point i wouldnt really want to spend the money to try the shield. Its not a cheap endevaour to pick one up with the price they are asking for it.

  • Dustin, maybe it's time send out the F5 alert!

  • Apparently with this rapid-fire conversation, I've made it to rank 8 (or 7 if you don't count @dustinc ) in this thread.

need, might have to swap the drive and give it a try to see if it accomplishes what I want. The previous time I looked into it, there was no solution without hooking up an external keyboard if you had to reboot/powerup

yeah it was really a great deal and it was easy to pick one up and deploy it to every tv in the house if you really wanted to. I cant recall if it lets you run without ethernet.. but ethernet being required would be the only caveat. I cant imagine using it without though. Lucky enough to have ports everywhere i need one in my house
