    VPSes: around 8
Dedi: 1 (Gigahost flash sale around $46/yr)
Cost per year should be around 230€ if I didn't forget anything

So much that I don't dare to look at it...

  • I have two, I feel like a kid lol
They cost baby money too, the one from LowHosting is 1€ per month (1 x Ryzen 9 5950X w/ 2GB RAM):

  • $130/y with 6-7 providers

    @yoursunny said: MXroute 10GB: $3/3y.

Hopefully something like that will be available this Black Friday.

Im Provider so dont ask about my spendings. Arround 300k a year or more for Colocation and shit. Not the Hardware itself . That comes on top

  • Extremely unpleasant question.

  • My question is - why do people have so many idlers? What's the point?

I see that you shy away from difficult questions :o

    That's another topic.
    I think it's a combination of reasons. Mixing passion / FOMO / filling a gap :p

It is the illusion of owning something. You can't always own something you love but VPS on the other hand you just have to pay money to own it :)

Ok that aside sometimes I idle them just to give support to the provider.

That... that's actually a surprisingly reasonable reason (the 2nd one  )

Pfff... I have them somewhere between 40 and 50. Closer to 50 right this moment, I think.
But I have no idea how much I'm paying for them because, with all the yearly, triennial payments, and so on, it would require a detailed calculation - and I’m not doing that.

    edit.
Uptimerobot says 48. I need to add the newest three, so that makes 51.

  • Only 8 right now . 2 used in production for my side projects

  • Around 18k per month , give or take

  • For me these days, it's 3 dedi's, 2 VPS, one /28 and two /30's. One of the dedi's is a production workhorse and the bulk of my spend. Everything else is more traditional low end and mostly for storage, backups or simple geographic presence. Total is about $2700 a year.

I'd love to get down to 2 dedi's, but I've had a hard time finding super budget servers packed with storage and also in the location I want.

How you people got them free?

Definitely over $1200 per year and that's just vps/servers
Another thousand or above on licenses yearly for software development, automation etc.
I'm pretty sure I'm a small fry compared to MOST providers who may not reach the thread to tell us their costs
I'm also quite sure I have idlers not included in the cost above and will only discover them in an email notifying me of an invoice.

I created wg-mesh a while back, so I can have my own wireguard mesh network using bird with OSPF.
Problem is, I got only around 256 IP's per Node, which I was slowly hitting since the network was growing and growing.

I ended up adding BGP support with semi automatic peering sessions, to split the network into multiple ones.
    Questions?

You are curious person to ask questions. You offer Free KVM, LxC, the hosts may support you. Do you work in admin job? Or you work in core of LXC development, you test them? You do for so many years, consistently. Even a lot of people sell tiny, mini VPS for money, you keep them free.

I used to have a lot of idlers before covid, later I realized I have milder (lowend) version on bipolar and ADHD after I met Phychogist. Then I bought workstation and servers for my startups, but end of the all mess.

Some addicts are better than smoke/drug/alcohol. Lowend seems ok, won't hurt so much.

Good question, no net profit as yet but because these are essential for operations I have no problem paying for them and also I have the funding because I work extremely hard to pay for it so it's all good. :)
