    They're still better than most but sadly, they went the route of basically everything soldered except the nvme. I've only had to replace the keyboard when a bunch of snow fell on it (was outside since it was a nice day) and a couple of keys stopped working

    Even memory modules come pre-soldered on ThinkPads now? Is that what you are saying?

Slowly, these big companies seem to be taking everything we love, away. Ig, Asus started the trend of soldered RAMs on low-mid-end laptops, and then, everyone started copying it blindly. Feel bad for the new MSI Modern laptops that have pre-soldered RAM with no additional slots.

    Yeah, I hope framework eventually comes out with a trackpoint like nub and buttons, I would fully switch to them. I've tried using laptops without it and I can't do it, I had to buy the trackpoint ii keyboard for my work laptop.

    Isn't framework stuff CADs freely out there? Someone could always create one and sell it. (I could be very wrong on this)

    If someone makes trackpoint with usb-c, you could just be lazy and putty that to the keyboard. Real DIY would drill a hole (if you find room), glue it, and wire the usb-c to one of your ports

    hehe, I do have https://lenovo.com/us/en/p/accessories-and-software/keyboards-and-mice/keyboards/4y40x49493 which works nice but sadly it's just the little usb receiver or bluetooth and not backlit :disappointed:

    Drilling a hole into ThinkPad. Don't recommend it, but, if it comes down to that, and convenience matters more than cosmetics, sure, why not!

    How cold? It's been dropping to the 50F here, so we sadly have to say goodbye to our pool. We just put in a brand new pool heater as the kiddos were in swim lessons, though now with it dropping down to 50F, it's hard to keep up. On top of that, we say good bye to salt, it basically goes poof in this temp.

    East cost here. Was snowing all day. Reaching around 30F. Snow didn't stick to roads. Was only suppose to snow for like 2-4 hours. Snowed all days and visibility sucked.

    Thinkpads are usually sturdy. Is it an older one though. Those were as sturdy as the Nokia 3310. Newer Thinkpads aren't that strong, from what I've heard.

    They're still better than most but sadly, they went the route of basically everything soldered except the nvme. I've only had to replace the keyboard when a bunch of snow fell on it (was outside since it was a nice day) and a couple of keys stopped working

    Even memory modules come pre-soldered on ThinkPads now? Is that what you are saying?

    That's too cheap of Lenovo to destroy something considered a basic necessity. The sturdy build and upgradability made ThinkPads, ThinkPads. Slowly, these big companies seem to be taking everything we love, away. Ig, Asus started the trend of soldered RAMs on low-mid-end laptops, and then, everyone started copying it blindly. Feel bad for the new MSI Modern laptops that have pre-soldered RAM with no additional slots.

    Yeah, I hope framework eventually comes out with a trackpoint like nub and buttons, I would fully switch to them. I've tried using laptops without it and I can't do it, I had to buy the trackpoint ii keyboard for my work laptop.

    Isn't framework stuff CADs freely out there? Someone could always create one and sell it. (I could be very wrong on this)

    If someone makes trackpoint with usb-c, you could just be lazy and putty that to the keyboard. Real DIY would drill a hole (if you find room), glue it, and wire the usb-c to one of your ports

    Well, would it be somehow possible to strip the USB cable and have a keyboard strip for motherboard instead which could be used by directly plugging into the motherboard? Just throwing any ideas that popup. Not even sure it's possible.

    You could try contacting them. Their company much like RackNerd and LET appreciates and thrives on community support.

    They know a lot from the old thinkpad community has been asking for it! Since they were focusing on their 16in line (wasn't out at the time), I figured they would eventually come back to it. They could seriously take a lot of thinkpad users since thinkpads has been getting less replacable/upgradable

    Yah totally. If at all they could provide better spec options in terms of CPU and GPU, their userbase would expand exponentially.

    guess it would be possible to hardwire power to it and crack the receiver open and install it inside somewhere.
