BTW, anyone here ran Palworld server when it went viral a few months ago? If yes, what was your experience like? Were you able to monetise it?

How can someone monetize game servers? I never had that idea before? as for the game it looked super time consuming so I had to watch some videos on youtube and it was fun haha. I'm more of an online gamer

Depends on the game. Could be as simple as a subscription to be on the whitelist, could sell in game stuff if it's modded, etc.

True, It's important to always adapt to each situation.

You might have to be prepared for what comes around the last few days/weeks.

I think imma lay down and aim for the last spot... looks like things will get super competitive these upcoming days

No. My intention never was/never will be to discourage anybody. I just want you to be prepared for anything. Just stay active, as you are doing right now, and you will surely go home happy. Too early to give up anyways.

I'm set with my gaming PC here so I'm not interested in winning one of those. My 5800X/4070 are doing just fine.

That's some solid you have man! So you do games huh?

Yeah, I actually do game dev professionally in addition to playing, so I could use that as an excuse to max it out... but I'm too cheap lol

That's very interesting! what engine do you use? I know so little to nothing about game development stuff

We use Unreal Engine. Pretty much everyone in the industry uses UE for PC/console (or a custom engine if you're lucky enough to be able to afford hiring an engine team) or Unity for mobile. It's unfortunately very consolidated.

Do you have your own company, or are you working for one in the industry? can you share some games you've worked on?

Nah, man, I'd like to go indie if I had the startup capital, but I just work for another company. I'll refrain from mentioning which one though since I don't wanna get their permission to share anything. :p If I had to guess though, you probably haven't heard of us, we're not very big.

Alrighty bro, wish you all the best on your journey!

Yeah, also my ISP charges for static IPs. Literally cheaper to buy a whole dang VPS with a static IP address lol.

I haven't yet looked into it in detail. Monetisation could be done at the website level or since you have control over the server, you could maybe show video ads or something.

My friend ran a private one for friends only. When it's a small group with everyone in one or two clans (or whatever it's called) the server is fine. Besides one person profile broken somehow and we to delete them and reset them. Public servers where really, really, really, really, really laggy.

I see. What kinda specs did this server have?

TBH, idk, it was an PC he didn't use anymore that he was hosting it at home from. So it could be better than most VPS/VDS out there that are cheap, or something hell a old that you would put to the aside and find 5 years later.

I see. I tried to run on an old Mini PC that I had lying around. Was pretty sure it won't run or atleast run well enough to actually enjoy the game. I was right. It didn't even start properly.

Weird. What error did it give? Only problem we had was port forwarding. It took four people with a computer science degrees to try to figure out, just for me to figure out that when I googled the ports no one else checked if tcp or udp was fowarded....... he didn't forward the right one.......

Not sure how it is in Palworld, but in Minecraft if you are a P2W server, prepared to be targeted. People will do there best to crash, lag, dupe, or whatever to break the server. You will find tons of groups who only target P2W.

The only thing that held me back is the initial expense in terms of the server specs required to run this game smoothly. Mods and additional features will obviously require an upgrade over the min. required.

Didn't even know that TBH. Bohemia ToS bans P2W as well. You break it and no one can connect to your server. They have a report form. And like I said, you will find groups and YouTube channels who loves to break and shutdown these servers.

Minecraft EULA bans P2W as well. As you can see they don't care about the EULA and rarely enforce it.
