Differences between Europe and Canada Kimsufi

Hi all,
I'd like to get a Kimsufi. I am based in Europe, but it seems that european kimsufi are very rare.

My usage will be "personal usage", I mean only nextcloud, mediaserver, VPN, etc.

My question is: does it really matter to have a dedicated server near to me? What are the downsides I can get having one from the other part of the world?

Thank you so much,
Valenerd

    3300 miles give or take

  • I'm in Asia, theres about 250ms lag to Europe or 300ms to east coast USA.

It's most noticeable using SSH or RDP to my servers, but I can live with it.

For you, if you're in europe, it'll most less noticeable to Canada, but there will be some.

The ping is the only thing that will be different for the production.
Mean a short delay if you use a GUI, which can be annoying, and definitely a no no for games. (Tho i am not into game server so to be confirmed for the last one)
Mean the download and upload speed will be sightly slower for your user or yourself. For personal use I think it's no big deal.
The legality is an other aspect, but I think you are not there.

My advice for you is to use no machine if you require a workstation, a GUI. If you use command line, then you will be fine. Personally i setted up docker with portainer and my life has never been easier. Use portainer CE if you have a swarm, and EE if standalone (you can have a free license by registering)

As I am far from being as techy as many here, I would appreciate others constructive comments on this comment if I am mistaken.

The difference will be more noticeable cause it's like 5x more instead of 20% more

  • Thank you so much to all of you for your answers. I can learn a lot. I think I'll try... Better a kimsufi in CA than no Kimsufi  I should have known the day before yesterday
