Experiences with Incognet ?

Incognet customers, what are your thoughts so far?

I'm thinking of buying some BF plans but not sure how much I want to spend yet. I'm mostly looking at this provider because Crunchbits is perma out of stock, and at least Incognet's WA location has Crunchbits as an upstream.

  • I have 0 complaints

    uptime: 23:57:29 up 796 days, 11:14, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Overall great provider, great support and active member.

IncogNet is for hosting privacy projects such as Tor exits.
    They are powerful but expensive.
Other providers are cheaper but they peek into your server and send your data to FBI.

This isn't true. Even they would have to comply with a federal court subpoena as they're a United States company. They aren't a bulletproof host. They're a privacy host, like many others that don't market it.

Edit: Incognet is ran by a competent and respected person, frankly this matters much more than a lot of other things.

Are there non-privacy focused use cases? Their site and posts here talk about free speech a lot.

I mean that's not an issue for me. I'm not looking for bulletproof; I'm just looking for some resilience against DDoS attacks from angry Tumblr users (something like that).

For context, my client is paranoid about people finding his site and trying to cancel him for being “controversial” or whatever. It’s for his webcomic that gets a little spicy politically but hardly egregious.

I think he’s blowing the whole situation out of proportion, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

  • Great provider, probably the best on LET.

  • I have stumbled over them in my research too and they seem pretty solid. Maybe someone (@MannDude) can shed some light on this:

    1. AFAIK they do not own their hardware but have their own switches?
    2. Does one get IPMI access or a KVM to dedicated servers to change BIOS settings?

I am more interested in the NL location rather than another US location.

On #1: They do fully own/operate in their KCMO location I believe (hardware/switches/etc).

I would highly recommend @MannDude / IncogNET, especially for a situation like this. He's done a great job making their operations resilient and he's reachable.

    What makes you say that?

  • Highly recommend IncogNET as well. Very reliable, honest, and trustworthy provider B)

  • Zero to complain with this host. Mann Dude is very nice in tickets. Good uptime, genuine host, rare in today's fly by night hosts.

Their only downtime was due to their upstream mask forgetting to notify us about the move, not them. It was US East, not West.

Besides a single oddity, never a scent of issue, and the gentleman is true.

  • Been with IncogNET since last year. Strongly recommend; @MannDude is committed to the cause of privacy and freedom of speech, and to his customers and community. IncogNET provides stable, high-quality services. I've bought VPS, shared hosting, and domain names from them. IncogVPN is solid as well, and I'm excited for MyPrivateInbox.

Had a VPS with them and was perfectly happy, no complaints at all.

Re "bullet-proof": What IncogNet/ @MannDude really can and do offer is anonymity that is, in a way a reliable form of privacy. Not knowing who you are nor a CC or bank account number, FBI requests and similar have very little effect, except maybe the data on the server (which to protect is your job anyway and feasible.

So, yes, being a us-american business (afaik) authorities can try but highly likely would leave empty-handed.

That is something very desirable and valuable for many customers (but not for me which is why I left).

TL;DR strongly recommended! The only potential minus is a somewhat higher price tag.

My post was mostly concerned with the quality of VPSes, but it’s nice to know that the business is also sustained by other services.

Well I don’t need to be anonymous, per se.

    Yeah, the VPSs are great.

Thanks for the kind remarks. We're small and growing at a sustainable pace. We've been around since late 2020 and plan on being here for a long time to come, with new products and features in the pipeworks.

Biggest complaint you'll find about us is our support speed, but we are working on this as well!

If you're happy, please consider letting the world know on our TrustPilot page since its been mostly used by those unhappy with support times: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/incognet.io The current state or the page is embarrassing but unhappy people are more likely to share their experience than happy people.

Yeah dang, HostSlick is really suffering under itself and I’m talking from experience. I guess the price tag really does spell the quality sometimes.

Well, everyone here convinced me. Got a server with you guys. My client is happy, and the Black Friday deals are good granted the cost of the regular VPSes, so I’m happy about that, too. I’ll make sure to leave a review once things get settled.
