Did the whole SkyLink data center just go down?

That's the key to cheap price, isn't it? :-D

I mean that's not the case here, i remember back in in may Interxion/Digital Realty FRA2 had such issues which took them 4 hours to fix it, and they aren't cheap though.

They should check/test "starter batteries and generators" more often rather than once in 5 month or a year...

B feed is a car battery.
You can measure 48V DC from there, but you can only run the whole data center for 1 second before it goes up in smoke.

  • Their website is back up....

    I forgot... they don't really have a B feed.
When I recall correctly, the A feed is without UPS and the B feed has UPS.

So if the mainline goes and the genset doesn't pick it up, the DC is toast like today.

    https://skylink-data-center.nl/colocation/backupracks

No UPS on the A feed.

I suspect at least one of my providers will not being coming back online, ever. Hope I'm wrong, but Solia.cloud hasn't been active on LET since October and hasn't responded to tickets this month either.

They have random users with new accounts on their discord claiming to be admins and at one point something got fixed by one, I only know of 1 of those users but I suspect there may be more possible alt account.

  • Still down?

Power has been restored and most of my providers who have servers there are back up.

  • My colocated servers are still not up. Kinda disappointing that the promoted generators (2x 1MW) from their website were not used. The grid provider solved the issue more than an hour ago but power does not seem to be back.

Just Received notification from our MX960 Monitoring. Bgp up.
    Everything seems to be booting.

Good luck! But as this is your first bigger mass-outage with that new router I assume things gonna be broken :-D

    All online

One Rack Main-Switch was cooked. It went "amnesiac" on backup partition and primary partition (wtf?) - forgot his configuration and i had to load config backup. But they seem busy remote hands wise to plug my console cable. ANd i heard from some customer who is customer somewhere else also he is still waiting for his servers.

Otherwise only a ILO4 management switch in some other rack needed fsck. But all is fine  Maybe because you wish me luck - got me lucky

I'm down 14 servers today already, and here I thought the one I lost due to HostCram's Ransomware attack was the worst of my problems.

    HostCram had ransomware attack?

you emailed your customers saying the problem was insufficient generation capacity. not that the generators batteries were dead

There was not enough diesel generator capacity available to cover more as our datacenter keeps expanding.

and is it true they spent €300 000 on aircons?

The risk for such big electricity interruption is very low, thats why
they renewed the air conditions this year and spent over 300k Euro for it.

    Look at this page.
    https://skylink-data-center.nl/rechenzentrum/stromversorgung

They got twice the mount of transformers compared to the gensets....
They invest "300k" into cooling but cheap out on the generators.

Maybe that's why I have received 3 emails titled "Emergency - Backup your Ryzen VM Data"
I replied to find out more and no response yet.
I have a renewal due soon so I will wait and see.

    HostCram had ransomware attack?

Technically Fiberstate did due to a IPMI exploit on some of their dedicated servers, and one of HostCrams nodes in their data center was affected.

OT a bit, but what is the point of having providerS in the same datacenter? Maybe dumb, but I don't get the logic.

When I need more resources for specific services, I try to find good deals that are as close to the existing servers as possible, inside the same data center if possible to avoid any possibility of external routing faults.

More often though, I just can't resist really good deals, so DC/location is often less important compared to price/resources.

So it's just the hoarding factor. I am sure not only me, but all the other regulars here get it now.

A certain someone, passed me some intel.

They gonna get 2 additional generators.
However, they will deconsecrate the oldest generator which is 40 years old.
No idea if that was a typo though.

It looks like things are improving at least.
