This is for the storage drive -- used for data files ...not for OS install or App install

I don't see anything wrong, I use this for my main PC, 512GB NVME + 2TB HDD and it's running fine for gaming, media (1080p BLU), edit 2160p video,...

    You are right.

That is why premium LET providers allocate a small NVMe drive for OS install + couple of Apps install

The storage drive is for keeping data files that will be used by Apps ... works perfectly for me with Windows Server 2022 OS

PS -- The OS as well as Apps are on the NVMe storage, Just the data files are on the storage server.

  • Yeah, just 10 minutes to load 60GB LLM from "Data" volume.
    Please wait

yeah I know, I use this type of installation everywhere I have the storage machine and it's perfectly fine for all of my use case (mostly backup and media use case).

You really want to host LLM in some Lowend storage VPS? is storage VPS made for this purpose ?

Weren't we talking about your pc that is begging you to replace 2tb hdd with 2 tb ssd.

@harris1111 said: is storage VPS made for this purpose ?

Purpose of running Windows RDP on it? :D You guys can run whatever you want on yours, but there's common sense and word "storage".

@harris1111 said: mostly backup and media use case

See, you know what storage vps are for, and @dev_vps doesn't.

    what's the new standard?

I think his new standard is HDD for OS install, and data in nvme maybe :D

I can't share my use case for using Windows RDP, but I definitely not plan to host LLM data files on any HDD based storage server

If you do not like anyone running Windows RDP on a storage server, that is not my problem.

See, you know what storage vps are for, and @dev_vps doesn't.

Do not tag me if you do not know what I am using VPS for?
You are quick to pass any judgment on others, but you won't like it if I start doing the same for you.

You can make any assumptions that feel like, but that is your problem.
But please do not tag me.

What I don't like is people picking losing fights vs. the whole world that long ago stopped using hdd as a second drive "for data". Storage vps have hdds because you get more for less, it's not there to build your nostalgia pc from 2008 lol.

@dev_vps said: if you do not know what I am using VPS for?

You've literally said what you are using it for above. And your "image vs. 999 words" shows that your system is suffocated by hdd lol.

where did I say LLM ... I use apps like winscp for ftp data transfer
Again you are making assumptions without knowing what I am using VPS for

  • @dev_vps said: winscp

Don't tell me it'll end up in you admitting there's no higher purpose and it's yet another media/backup server and you've picked a fight for nothing.

  • You are free to make any assumptions. I don’t care. that is your problem, not mine

    Just don’t tag me

    And my use case is

    • 70% — media and file management
    • 30% — other usage

For many storage vps providers — just by installing Windows Server OS — even with few apps running the cpu usage goes through the high limits … that is not my experience with premium LET providers.

You can see the current active running apps on the taskbar. I do have other Windows apps installed on it.

I thought you'll tell something ground breaking.

It's simply case to case basis. I have some movies in my storage server and even if the HDD gets destroyed, I don't care much.

I'll rather have it on HDD than SSD because of my personal experience. Except samsung, many other SSD providers have disappointed me from time to time on consumer side

My 15 year old 1 TB HDD is still going strong (except the noise).

I'll never put everything on SSD if it's important.

  • It seems HOST-C will be holding a flash sale while I’m asleep. In other words, I’ll need to stay asleep and have a family member or someone else make the purchase on my behalf.

No, why. I've said right off the bat it's another pointless fight over obvious things.

@itachikonoha said: I'll never put everything on SSD if it's important.

I've lost 7 hdds over the years, yet my old 128GB sata ssds from intel and samsung (dating back to around 2012 if I recall correctly) are still running strong 24/7. So my mileage is different, I will never put anything important on hdd, at least without making 3 copies elsewhere.

Because I am a visual person and webmin allows me to perform many tasks on the VPS visually from a browser session,. Even SSH terminal.
