iDrive e2 Price Change

this is sent via email

To accommodate increased infrastructure costs and continue providing you with reliable and scalable cloud storage, we will be adjusting the prices for your Yearly (1 TB) plan. The plan rates will increase from $30 to $49.5 at renewal. The storage overuse charges over your plan will increase from $0.004/GB/Month to $0.005/GB/Month. Despite this change, we remain one of the most affordable providers in the S3 storage segment.

The change will take effect on your next renewal date Nov 30, 2024. Your subscription plan will be auto-renewed on or before Nov 30, 2024 to ensure continuous uninterrupted service. Any discounts applicable for your account will apply at renewal.

but I think idrive-e2 is still the cheapest among its competitors or maybe you know of a cheaper hoster :D

here if you want to see new price: https://www.idrive.com/s3-storage-e2/pricing

  • Is that the amount of advance notice they gave or is it an older email? Just 2 weeks?

  • I received email on October 18. Renewal was November 1st. Price increase from 20$ to 49.5$

  • ohh i see, i am the outdated guy here LOL

  • For me the panel still shows $30 per year. Renewal is set for May next year. So I'll probably get that increase notice in April.

  • It was priced like this for me when I signed up with iDrive last year. $24.75 for the first year and $49.50 onwards.

Nah, it seems like they send it to everyone two weeks before the expiration date.

  • Received it too. I was paying 20$/year for 1TB. I’m canceling it and moving to minio with OVH dedi.

Or just signup with another email account and get it for the discounted price again....

  • I had the same mail last month as mine was about to renew then was shown the new price, but if you thretten to leave with the close account, they will give you a stay offer which is cheaper. Its still more then it shuld be tho but may save you a few quid if you dont have time to move things.

    Oct 29, 2023 - Oct 29, 2024 Paid $15.00
    Oct 29, 2024 - Oct 29, 2025 Paid $37.13

But next year I will drop them as I don't like their behavior, I didn't have time this year to move everything to MinIO or I would have, as I have about 72 buckets which are tied into many Github actions for my automation and its time consuming to move that all over.

It was not that good in the first place. I had it to host my jellyfin media but I have now better storage deals.

I find it good for my needs but what are you using instead?

Aws s3 and Cloudflare r2 for production websites. For backups and hobby projects and media server, I use ovh and other LET storage providers.

  • we started using idrive few months ago, with the new pricing, so no change for us, still seems to be a good value for the money.

  • Another thing about iDrive E2 pricing. Suppose you are on prepaid plan like 1TB but stored only 100GB, when you consume more than 300GB(3x the stored amount), they will charge you for bandwidth overuse. It's not like you are on 1TB plan so you get 3x(3TB) per month download allowance.

Is that really the case? That's awful.

I had pay overuse fees twice, tallying around 7-8$ if remember correctly. My real usages was like around 200 GB. At last, I had to upload a few hundreds gigs of Linux ISO's.

I just had that first time it has occurred I got billed for 900gb bandwidth

As I have paid for the year and its unlikely to occur again then I am fine with it but its certainly something I will consider when the renewal is up.

So they'd prefer that you uploaded 900GB of random data? Seems silly.
