@maverick said: I suppose it could get slightly inconvenient if both of those VPS are on the same physical host and disk array? :D

Probably in ~1 mo all Backup servers will be moved to the second location we have, not to be in the same DC as PROD SRV. Why? well, we do not want to get OVH'd :D :D

What do you mean with "Backup servers"? Proxmox backup servers or storage VPSes (as they are also often used for backups)?

  • @host_c said: Imagine the number of drives needed for a 280 TB server in RAID 60.

If that is usable space (after RAID), I'll try my best to reverse engineer it. You let me know how close I am.

3 RAID6 arrays, each consisting of 8 disks, that is 24 * 16 TB ~ 384 TB raw disk. Then those 3 arrays striped (RAID0), of course, to give final and impressive RAID60.

For every 8 disks, equivalent space of 2 is spent on parity, so 384 * 6 / 8 ~ 288 TB. Of course disk vendors lie, filesystem wastes some additional space, so usable would be even less than 280 TB. Maybe 18TB disks instead of 16TB? ;)

    the disks are 500GB

how many disks do you need to get 280TB usable capacity RAID60

    700? 800?

PMX Backup Servers we have will move to another location. We need rack space for the monstrosity we wish to test out :D :D :D :D

exactly my thoughts on this one.

But I went a little further.

    @mw said: its time

We have something under construction. We are 1 month behind with it I admit, but you will definitely like it Disk Performance wise.....

I might put a badge on it—too soon to be sure—but it will get a Performance tag when posted, something like this.

We’re aware of the situation and ask for your patience as we try to find a more elegant solution for it.

Unfortunately, this is largely due to users not taking proper care with their passwords. ( result was account hijack and that was not funny :D )

It is as annoying for us as it is for you fellas/ladies/gents.

Currently, we're working to eliminate a few persistent provisioning bugs and to enable the option to add /64 IPv6 subnets by default during order placement. Additionally, Reverse DNS functionality is an ongoing feature in development.

Dude, please use a different captcha. It's so tough that sometimes I do not want to (even when I am need to) enter in to control panel because I can't differentiate between which pics have some flying guinea pigs or sleeping rats etc., They look all the same to me.
