Why do all providers require a meaningless FQDN hostname?

Requiring an FQDN hostname during service payment seems to be insignificant.
Major cloud providers like GCP, AWS, and Azure do not require anything similar at all.

Just put a meaningless hostname, all good.

It is not providers requiring it, it is SolusVM. Not all providers use SolusVM.

It's simple for providers to automate / generate a random one automatically upon ordering. I'm not sure why providers don't just do that with a WHMCS hook.

Same thing with requiring nameservers when ordering a VPS. Why? Just hide these fields and auto-fill in the background.

  • It also could be used to distinguish server.
Suppose you need to manage the renewal of hundreds of unnamed VPSs.

This! This is something that has always bothered me, why ask for nameservers? Even if you put something there it is never used anyway, so why even ask?

I can only assume this is some legacy crap that they carry on since forever.

Tho, no idea where it comes from.
Like.. the fact that the placeholder is "ns1/ns2" makes me think it was actually related to a domain name server and no a DNS resolver.

  • virtfusion didnt ask hostname

i like virtfusion approach if we change hostname in virtfusion panel, in whmcs will follow the changes.

The nameserver field is an indicator of incompetency level of the provider.

    Honestly

Already using a dumb panel, config it right. I don't know, yeah right, that's why I didn't start a host

If you have many servers, it makes understanding what the server is for easier. The customer panel matches up with the server hostname as well.
