Well, I agree with @egoror. "There are some uncertainties and/or grey zones" != "clear situation", hence it would be desirable and useful to get a court's decision/opinion.
fsf's view carries little significance, just like mine, and for the same reason: we are biased, they love and praise gpl and I'm utterly opposed to it (for good reasons as this case demonstrates).
What's needed is a decision by intelligent people who are objective and neutral for a living and whose determination is binding.
Then, as a next step, take the pills away and put mullenweg into a mental asylum.
could someone run trough this video into gpt, only interested in summary.
yesterday i was reading about his interview here https://old.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/comments/1gg33ak/i_watched_matts_tech_crunch_interview_so_you_dont/
edit: found what i read yesterday https://web.plaud.ai/share/28ef1730312067716
Some of their businesses are overlapping and competitive. WordPress officially sells blog hosting and e-Commerce hosting.
Perhaps the best solution is to sell WP Engine to WordPress
Ah so this is why Matt has beef with Silver Lake owned WPEngine, Matt was kicked out of WPEngine investment by Silver Lake
And Matt seems fine with dragging this drama out for years if he has to via the courts.
As you seem to have seen it, would you please kindly provide a 3-line summary? Because frankly listening about 45 min. to those guys blathering IMO would be a waste of time for me.
Thank you!
1) Matt was kicked out of WP Engine investment earlier
2) They point out his story keeps changing, "trademark abuse" by WPE is bs
3) Matt wants 8% of WPE business MINIMUM, boasting how many clients left WPE and even more will leave, damaging WPE for more than 8% he asked for
4) Enough people wanted to get 9 months salary and leave for him to chicken out and ask them to stay till next year
So, that whole freak-show basically just is a rejected clown taking revenge and trying to take Mafia-style, incl. betraying and abusing the "community" and open-source, what he couldn't get by normal and legal means ...
Thanks for the summary!
Matt trying to lure away WPEngine customers https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/s/8trcu74IUh
Yeah he even kind of slips that "WPE has to spend more time working on WP" claim was made only so his demands don't look as plain extortion.
this is pathetic.

Matt is single-handedly tarnishing the reputation of WP
"tarnishing"? - how about destroying what little reputation they still have.
Btw., very stupid too because he effectively hands evidence to wpEngine that wp does create damage to wpEngine.
In the last video from @eva2000 the lawyer said that wpEngine's position is quite good. Now he'd probably say that their victory in court is all but certain.
On another note: In the beginning I wondered whether the clown is just stupid but thinks he's smart. Meanwhile it seems clear (in my eyes) that the clown really and seriously "thinks" he's in the right and a white knight fighting for the good - or in other words he's seriously deranged and, as often seen with woke idiots, doesn't see reality anymore but is lost in his echo chamber.
He'll very likely end completely wrecked both, in the court and financially (investors don't take lightly when they lose lots of money; they go after it - to the clown) as well as socially and psychologically.
But of course he'll leave ruins behind himself, ruins that maybe can't even be fully repaired.
He is using non-profit .org to sh*t on WPE because if he would use .com it's immediately anti-steering and anti-trust. But .org is his "get out of jail" card, he uses non-profit to act on behalf of for-profit with all the gray-zone statements.
Matt at it again now releasing a nulled version of WPEngine's aid Advanced Custom Fields Pro on their hijacked SCF plugin slug on wordpress.org
https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/s/FQxAypf9eY
Looks like he's also auto disabling the real ACF plugin using hijacked SCF version against WordPress own plugin guidelines https://x.com/DuaneStorey/status/1860612609751359617?t=W3xh9M97-hv7amYGLNGpHA&s=19
UPDATE
A win for WP Engine!!
Automattic restores the access to wordpress.org repo.
https://www.theverge.com/2024/12/10/24318350/automattic-restore-wp-engine-access-wordpress
*sigh* there are no chicken drama so i'll read this one
I'm not sure what to expect but that's amusing. also chimp out like usual
thats a whole new drama at Automattic
I am thinking to move away from wordpress, yiks
Maybe a case of lead-deficiency?
What an asshole.
It's time to bring some fresh news in this thread.
Baby Matt started crying and acting as a child (nothing new) after his preliminary injunction lost:
https://wordpress.org/news/2024/12/holiday-break/
This is hilarious
Lets move to classicpress
New development. Now Yoast https://wptavern.com/joost-de-valk-calls-for-breaking-the-wordpress-status-quo-community-reacts
So, I just saw this on reddit: https://github.com/EstebanForge/UnrePress
Seems like a cool initiative, although what @bikegremlin once mentioned remains: who is to regularly vet such (cool) plugins that are outside of the wp repository. I remember a discussion a while ago where it was said that plugins published on wp repository are more trusted by people (understandably)
yeah.. because they undergo serious security checks. many plugins which are not on wp repository are found having backdoors to hacking and phishing cartel as they might not get updated by creator for every new release of WP core. It's just like when you download app from google-play or apple-store its quite safe, than downloading apk file from internet.
Yeah. Hence the answer to independency from Matt needs to be a well considered and secure one. Let's see where this takes the community in the future.
Seems neat. Have you been using it for a long time ? Is it stable / a good long term choice ? Thanks!
I think @vyas11 has tried it out for a while.
Yup, I moved all my WordPress blog to ClassicPress this month. It seamless migration, unless you are using Block based theme, it not supported.
That's what held me back. It sounds like a great project, but all those modern page builders like Elementor, Divi etc will likely not work, or will they?
Might try to put Livecanvas on it though, as it's just html basically, and their premium plugin/theme isn't in wp repo anyway iirc
Personally never used WP Engine. What value did they offer that WordPress alone didn't?
