Reviews of my VPS providers so far
Here are my quick reviews of various providers. Most have been great but some have their downfalls, as everything does. Everyone has their own experiences, these are just mine. Hope this helps people navigate through all the offers and have an understanding of what can happen and who is good for what (in my opinion).
Reason for posting is because I am pretty much done setting up my little network so it's worth posting this now whilst it's fresh in my mind. And also need more posts and that on here to be able to transfer servers at some point.
About my set up/myself:
I have about 12 servers coming to about £40 a month now. I use a few to set up webhosting for projects, the others for backups and 1 or 2 rdp vps to work on.
Port 25 is important to me because who wants to set up a separate e-mail server when it can and should be included, unless there's some other selling point i.e. lower price or loads of storage. It's also nice to know a server is ready to be set up for hosting inc e-mails even if it isn't being used.
Ionos
Awful. Don't touch it. I read the reviews and thought "nope, that's only a percentage of customers, won't happen to me". Well...
Server approved with free Plesk, yes! Port 25 open, yes! So I signed up for 2 more then suddenly a whirlwind of absolute crap from customer services. Apparently my phone was picked up by a foreign lady, who didn't speak english, so therefore that meant that my account needed to be closed and I can't do business with them. I missed 1 call.
Server already approved suspended - no access, cancelled with the account. Then I get an invoice a week later for the amount, yet I still couldn't access my account, so I e-mailed them and then get an e-mail straight back saying my e-mail is blocked. Amazing.
In the end I contacted customer services on X to confirm my invoices had been cancelled. I don't wish them any luck, I hope they get what they deserve.
And for a company that plasters ads on national TV I find it very weird that every time I called up it was the exact same guy answering. Also petty sure same guy who did the refund in the billing department. It reminded me of seeing on a cartoon a big house then the house falls down because it's just the face of a house being held up by planks of wood and there's nothing else behind it.
Bullethost
My data feels safe with them. I have my personal projects hosted with them. Communication about downtimes could be better but otherwise one of my favourite. No issues so far other than the long downtime, but then that was for a big upgrade for them so I don't care that much as I can't see it happening again anytime soon.
As mentioned, my own stuff on there, but I could imagine if I had customer data on there I would probably be saying something a lot different and not so positive.
Charityhost
One of my new ones, no issues with them so far. Have a good feeling about them as they seem relatively sensible and professional. Have a feeling I'll keep that server for a while. I just hope there is no bubble about to burst.
Little Creek
I don't have any issues at the moment. My first VPS was a Windows one but I let it go because there were a few times the internet would go dead, no websites would work whilst still connected to RDP (everything else worked fine so not actually an internet issue).
Customer support didn't know and neither did I, using google to search "internet not working on vps but still connected to rdp intermittently" isn't an easy search to navigate. Got rid as I had a hunch it may have been related to overselling or some bad neighbour.
But then got a Linux package off them and so far it's been great. I feel like my data is safe with them and there is not likely to be any drama in the future.
Ethernet Servers
Another one with no issues. So happy I upgraded it and set it up to host a few sites. Shame I can't install Windows with my "own license". Would be nice to have that feature. But I feel like my data is safe here, too, and no dramas.
Colocrossing
I got 4 of their annual servers on the assumption port 25 could be opened. Long story and I'm not going to go into it, (well, a little bit) my port 25 is opened but I still can't use it.
I asked again today to open the port then got sent a list of questions to answer again, I said I had answered them, they said I have to answer it for each server, to which I replied evidence I was referring to the same server as I had port 25 approved for before, then they say port 25 is open.
I said I don't believe it is open because I still can't use it. No reply since (only been a few hours but had quickfire replies at the time).
Hostdzire
No comment as I am not going to be petty here other than good deals depending on whether they change the specs after purchase aka no port 25.
aquatis.host
Good, no issues. HDD storage server so no port 25 needed and happy with their price. I just think of Johnny Depp when I see this company's name. Aqqquaaaa-maaaan.
Hostbrr
No issues, same as above, but without the Aqua Man bit. I think this is the NAT HDD server so no port 25 but I don't care because it's cheap with lots of storage for backups.
Racknerd
Some issues with custom ISOs. Seems like a known issue. Wouldn't get another server as I can't help but to wonder what else is wrong/different with their set up that is out of my control or knowledge. I would have refunded and forgotten about it if their policy wasn't so strict.
I also get a little offended by their promo page that countdowns, which is deceiving because it always resets and makes you wonder "what else" again.
RIP to me if I get banned for saying that I am not sure if admins here own this company or something. But honesty is the best policy!! ![]()
Serverpoint
I had a few servers with them but got rid of them all. There were a few times customer services misunderstood me. For example, I asked what would they do if I got a DCMA request, because I plan to do webhosting and that it is something that could possibly happen.
I just wanted to know do they delete the server without notice, give notice, remove the offence themselves etc, just the current known procedure. I specifically asked this here because it feels like a big company like Ionos that doesn't care about data stored and they replied something like "We do not serve customers who have potential DCMA requests we will be cancelling your servers and refunding them", yikes.
Eventually the guy spoke to his manager or something to work out what I was asking. I lost confidence after that but otherwise the servers were nice. I would have been in a state of panic if I actually had any customer data on there and said they are cancelling due to something that hasn't even happened. But I wish them luck, they seem like a nice bunch.
Just.Hosting
Almost missed them off but these guys seem OK. I was going to have my VPS here but then seemed a bit of a waste it seems like the servers are better for something that needs a clean IP like a VPN, and that's their selling point, a clean IP? I would say these guys are very stable, have a nice infastructure and their website is completely different to all of the above. If I was to set up a VPN for a business then they would be first choice for me.
Conclusion
All are great in their own ways (apart form Ionos). Some I have not included because I can't be bothered to speak about them i.e. myvpsco (slow as fuck more like 128mb ram on a 0.2mbps line who would have guessed at their prices) and a few others that are not fresh in my mind.
If I had to pick a few servers to pay for FOREVER, it would be ones with Bullethost, EthernetServers CharityHost and LittleCreek as they just seem to tick the right boxes for my uses of their servers.

Thank You for taking the time to review various providers.
While we at RackNerd provide a myriad of OS templates for convenience, we can also mount custom ISO’s upon request at no charge — more info here: https://my.racknerd.com/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/59/Does-RackNerd-VPS-support-Custom-ISO.html
We have mounted and processed thousands of these requests over the years without issue.
If the specific iso you requested is having an issue, we welcome you to reply to the ticket with an alternative mirror/download link so we can give it another shot in case the original iso download link you provided was corrupt/not working.
Our refund policy is usually no per our terms of service, though we do work on these requests on a case-by-case basis. We're quite reasonable, with a goal to help where we need to on a technical level as an added bonus where possible.
We sincerely appreciate your business and are always here to help, so feel free to get in touch at any time.
You can always netboot.xyz instead of mounting an ISO. You should be able to at least install Debian on like 1G KVM (maybe 768MB too) but I get your point.
Are experiences like yours with IONOS the reason why German hosters like Strato, Netcup, and, well, IONOS do not get many recommendations around here? I have tried both IONOS and Strato, the 1€ VPS each, and they are rock solid with good performance and Plesk license on top. Netcup's 1€/2€/4€ VPS also seem like great deals on paper (but without Plesk).
I did get through their phone auditions though, so that would definitely make my experience better than yours in itself. Netcup called me at 8 in the morning, with how sleepy I was they must have thought me a total imbecile and still waved me through.
Haha yeah, I would assume so. Good to hear your experience has been fine. I actually have a hosting package with fasthosts actually coming up to a year and that has been fine but I think it's a case of the likelihood of an experience with ionos happening is high in general. I feel like working there you can do what you want and there's no comeback. The CEO is probably a lizard who invented crypto and flies back into the water in his tic tac at night. That's my bet.
You can reinstall your system into other systems through scripts. I installed alpine and arch to RackNerd VPS and they worked fine.
Appreciate the suggestions and @zGato . I don't get why it's not like colocrossing or just.hosting's which don't seem to have the same issues as @dustin
Every time I have requested RackNerd for mounting an iso, it was super quick. On some occasions, I have even requested couple of times on the same day, it was processed quickly.
MX Linux is my favorite distro for its Windows style look and feel.

Yeah, I agree about that, they are very quick at mounting ISOs. I think I did about 3 or 4 in one day and none of them worked as intended
I always installed NoMachines to access vps desktop. Never had any vps access issues.
I dunno, I don't think it wasn't an issue with connecting remotely. The more I think about it the less I remember. I need to check again what kept happening that didn't happen elsewhere using the same method
Thanks for the reviews , but have you tried 7layer or Crowncloud before ?
No I have not yet is there something good about them or is it because they are bad?
if you're from EU , I suggest you give 7Layer a try , good specs with low prices , see @layer7
also CrownCloud is good , you can get a good offer see @SpeedBus
Thank me later
Do you mean Layer7 (@layer7 )?
Don't quite get this, is the T&C specifically say cannot install Windows even with your own license? A I understand we can't install Windows Home edition on vps but however we can still install pro and enterprise?
I have to add my praises to CrownCloud and @Speedbus. We moved to CrownCloud after Dedipath failed and am happy we did. Far better than others we tried, like TMDHosting and Scalahosting, both of which were severely lacking in integrity. And we have our Servers in CrownCloud's EU facilities, even though we're based in the U.S.
