Hostslick : VPS outage since 10 days

Hi, there,

Disclaimer:
This is not a thread for drama.
This is a promotional VPS, which is really cheap.
So I'm not here to complain.

I'd just like to know if anyone else is affected and has had any info on the status of the host node and data.
If that's the case, I'm sure one of you contacted support within the minute and has all the information I need

I was using it as a backup promox server
I'm just trying to figure out if I should set up a new server or if I can live with my laziness and it will come back on its own. :)

  • You should contact support. I have also a promotional VPS, here is the data:

    From uptime kuma:

    Uptime
    (24-hour)
    100%

    Uptime
    (30-day)
    99.95%

It was very stable before this event

I imagine it only affects this node, or even just my VPS:
CHRISTMAS 2023/24 KVM VPS OFFER II

    Thanks !

    This.

You're finally idling your VPS properly.

It's the same offer. It should be a problem with your VPS or it may be on a different node.

The proxmox backup server was only active for 10 minutes a day.
I thought this was already a good level of idling. :p

    I've reached another level

The impact must therefore be very limited
In that case, I'll wait patiently for support to get back to me ;)

As I recall, @Hostslick just got a new baby ( A JUNIPER ), he might be putting that thing into production, hence some interruption.

    Good finding!
    What a beast OMG :D

Probably a network configuration error, so no data loss. I'm back on my sofa

Veterans here would consider that a heavy CPU abuse.

  • Ticket: #170773

It took me 8 days to notice, so I guess it can wait a little longer. Aka it's not urgent ;)

Nope. 10 minutes per day isn't heavy abuse anymore. That's severe abuse!
@remy 's VPS should be throttled down 0.1% as punishment (not during the 10 min. though, that would be a bit harsh).

  • His website also performing slow. My internet issue or your client portal also working slow.

Check your e-mail if you Black-Friday and Christmas deals buyers.
    or click spoiler.

    Hello Micha?,

you are receiving this message because of a very critical status event based on a product/service you have with us.
Before reading this email its important to understand that not everyone who receives this message is affected.

This affects mainly some small part of the Black-Friday and Christmas deals sold last year.
Mainly some that are in 93.123.118.0/24 and 50.118.225.0/24. If you have a VPS in this IP Range you might contiune read.

In the morning of the 6th October 2024, Node "10GKVM15.hostslick.com" went unresponsive, however was responsive to ping.
We assigned someone to check that issue but there was no luck to recover. Later we checked the node a bit deeper and initiated a reboot.
We found that last night out of exception, two SSDs of the same mirrored span in the RAID10 have failed which have caused the behaviour.
After a check the raid array showed "failed" status. After investigation we have then seen the failed drives.

The drives recently have both been fine. All other of them too. Just this night two in same span failed.
In RAID10 that means, if two drives in same span fail, data is lost.

We where hoping that the issue was the raid controller or the slots in the front plane (Front of Node where you put the SSDs in).
However that was not the case. We had to realize that this just happened and two drives failed in the same span.

We have rebuilt some new replacement Node after and are currently getting it into operation. Within next hours we start to re-provision all VPS.
You might need to open a Ticket NOW, if you are affected. We will re-provision your plan asap.

Currently we are checking how to automatic re-provision all those on Virtualizor but we are unsure if there is a way to do this.

So, please raise a ticket with us, so we can get you back up more quick.

For everyone affected we offer 10€ and account credit and one month will be added back to your billing cycle. We are very sorry for this.

After all VPS are back into operation, we are trying to re-evaluate this, what can be done to prevent such events in the future. For now our focus is to deal with all affected customers ASAP.

Please note after all, we are a unmanaged provider and customer is always responsible for their backups. As stated in our ToS also. We know that this is a serious event and it shouldnt happen.
We are very upset with this too. As said it will be re-evaluated after.

    Thank you for understanding.

    HostSlick e.K.

However I would assume this is not OP problem and he is in different boat.

I have two OpenVZ idlers in affected range, they both seems to work.

  • I just lost 10+ HostSlick VPS in the IP range from the RAID failure :(
I got the same notification email from Hostslick as well

My idlers may be gone, but they will not be forgotten.

Didn't get that email, but a few hours ago, just my luck.

    Take a lesson.

  • HostSick deleted my disk twice in the past months, both times got a empty VPS with new IP after days without notice only after submitting support ticket.
They promised a $10 refund for this, glad to have cancelled before the power outage.
Thankfully found a new home at MassiveGrid.
