Hey LET Nerds! (Providers Mainly)
racking our brains here on this one , so thought we would put it out to the community for a general feeler.
We looking at a New CDN Provider , as good as cloudflare is it has its problems + were being asked by cloudflare to upgrade a Premium Plan.
not against a paid for CDN just dont want to get royally screwed by crazy high costs like what i expect from the likes of AWS Cloudfront.
looking between BunnyCDN & KeyCDN ,
Proxy for protect backend IPS are crucial.
so many dns records we have so whoever we go with will be a nightmare to change to .
ability to trigger CDN & proxy on specific entrys.
Support when needed, Cloudflare take 3-5 days when we had issues a few months back.
there not much discussion on CDN Recently.
thanks in advance

Nerds
I feel it is an insult to our profession.
you need to be a professional nerd to be in this industry lol
Just pay the $300 or if you mean the enterprise plans, 3000, 4000 or whatever they offered you, you wont regret it, its unlimited unless you have the argo smart routing on, others charge by traffic.
It would be nice to have some input from @speedypage regarding BunnyCDN.
In my opinion, BunnyCDN is a very good CDN. It's just a shame that not all pops on the standard tier have IPv6. But in terms of customer support, it is very good and very fast. It only takes about 10 minutes to reply to messages. If you want it faster, you can contact via discord.
I use Cloudflare + BunnyDNS for my website. Where Cloudflare uses CNAME records to domains registered with BunnyDNS + Geo Routing. Because Cloudflare's load balancing price is quite expensive, so I prefer this method.
I moved from CF FREE to bunny. Happy with their network. I wish they had more Volume Network especially one in India and Middle East.
Let’s be clear - there is nothing better than cloudflare. Close to them is akamai and imperva. Bunny and everyone else is behind by a lightyear.
What issues you having with Cloudflare? Why are you being asked to upgrade due to your usage/bandwidth/traffic? But yes CF support is slower right now and their new billing system migration has been buggy.
I am aware recently Cloudflare started enforcing max 200 DNS record limits on CF Free plans for new accounts created after September 1, 2024 when prior it was 1000 max DNS records for CF Free plans with CF Pro/Business/Enterprise at 3,500 max DNS record limits which CF Enterprise having negotiable on request higher limits.
Personally, I am biased I have been a Cloudflare free and pro plan customer since 2011 and a CF business and enterprise user and official Cloudflare MVP (non-paid like Microsoft MVP) since 2018.
Cloudflare is worth every penny for their paid plans IMHO.
I did a write up for CF Business plan benefits since some of my users/clients ask frequently at https://blog.centminmod.com/2022/05/19/2794/what-are-the-benefits-of-using-cloudflare-business-plan/
ability to trigger CDN & proxy on specific entry.
That can be automated via CF API if needed to export. One of my CF DNS API scripts automatically backs up entire domain zone DNS records before making DNS API changes so it can be done to export your DNS records. Just need for receiving CDN provider to have API support to feed those exported records back in
As to Cloudflare alternatives, I've tried most CDNs out there in the past including BunnyCDN and KeyCDN. I feel BunnyCDN has a better feature set if you had to choose between the 2. Another one would be Akamai.
But like others have mentioned, Cloudflare does have the largest CDN market share https://w3techs.com/technologies/overview/proxy
Cloudflare is currently my best option if the sale team stop force to Enterprise plans. BunnyCDN is the secord option.
How much bandwidth did you use that Cloudflare force you to upgrade to paid plan?
How about BlazingCDN? I've been using them for over a year, uptime 100% for that time and most importantly the prices are the lowest.... $0.05 for 1TB
Last few months weve been over 10TB a month normally we sit around 5-6 so had a big jump in traffic, i dont think its that high really as some of our customers sites use more than we do. its not just a single site we have via cloudflare a number of our portal are behind CF also. so things all add up. and they not too happy it seems, from the posts ive seen online thought it was anyone over 50 or 100TB that got flagged
Maybe just upgrade to their $20/mo plan and they'll stop pestering you.
there wanting us to go up to enterprise which is a Massive jump . so looking to see if there a alternative that lives up to simular to cloudflare that is not crazy costs like clouflares 200+ a month
Yeah obviously they want to upsell you, but it's going to be unlikely they'll boot you off the platform as a $20/mo paying customer for a couple of TB/mo.
Is it purely related to bandwidth ? Cloudflare wouldn't be concerned over 10TB a month. How are you using Cloudflare's service/products ?
Reminds me of https://robindev.substack.com/p/cloudflare-took-down-our-website where customer was doing some form of domain rotation to get around some countries legal restrictions -
they operated gambling site which is banned in some countries. Those countries were banning Cloudflare owned IPs impacting Cloudflare operations and customers and was against Cloudflare's TOS. Cloudflare Enterprise plan offered them a proper alternative with BYOIP service only available on CF Enterprise plans. So they would be able to use their own IPs and not Cloudflare's IP addresses.
im pending a response back, we have clients who do more than us on cloudflare and get no complaints , nothings fancy from our site a few different portal proxied behind and our main 2 websites no funky business going on at all
really leaning towards bunny but they are pretty new kids to the block so little concerned how long they will be around in comparison to Cloudflare
Did you got a response from Cloudflare already?
there has been quite a bit back and fourth with them there pushing us to go to enterprise and really don't see why with our usage were not doing insane number so seems unjustifiable, would understand if we doing 50-100TB but for under 20TB doesn't really seem fair.
Just build your own CDN
Anyways, it does seem odd for them to push you up to Enterprise and I've only used BunnyCDN briefly and it seems pretty good. It could be worth a try.
i need to move to one of them just a pain changing the NS over have to be very careful with the hundreds of records we have setup! going to be chaos. as to use BunnyCDN you seem to have to be using there NS.
They want you to go from free to enterprise?
Aren't you using CF's NS anyway?
BunnyCDN is great btw.
I believe you should be able to use BunnyCDN or at least test things out without changing NS. I was able to use it without changing NS from Cloudflare.
https://support.bunny.net/hc/en-us/articles/207790269-How-to-create-your-first-Pull-Zone
Yes were on cloudflare NS right now
has anyone moved to bunny and think it better over cloudflare?
I'm curious as to why/how they're justifying the enterprise plan.
What's lacking in the Pro or Business plans that don't cover you now? I'm assuming telling them you just want the Pro plan hasn't worked for you.
Do you have a crazy amount of domains and/or records in your account?
there's less than 10 domains on our Cloudflare account nothing too crazy & bandwidth is nothing insane there being quite grey and trying to get there True reason why i need to upgrade to enterprise, just been told because i have outgrown the free tier, which does not really help us figure what the cause if , fair do if we have hit there limits ill move to another provider but its infuriating not knowing the reason behind it
I would go with Bunny, they are your best bet. It seems like CF are basically forcing your hand. It is going to be hard to beat CF because they aren't as fast or have as many POPs as CF but it should do the job.
Did they said what they'd do if you remain on your current plan by choice? If it's just aggressive sales, then you should be able to stick with the plan your on or just upgrade to Business plan. Get them to put it in writing of a letter pdf, that you want to pass on to all the decision makers in your company as to the reasons why they think you need to migrate to Enterprises plan - outlining specific examples of your usage that are reasons for the push to Enterprise plan.
I'd imagine all the back and forth has split this stuff over many discussions. Having an actual letter/email pdf will make it easier to summarise and also get a second opinion if needed. Like escalating this above Cloudflare sales contact/department.
