Is it okay to use RIPE IPs in EU with ARIN ASN?
in Help
Hi,
So I'm planning on getting an ARIN ASN. I have some subnets rented on IPXO and subnets are RIPE.
I will be using these subnets in EU servers.
I heard that ARIN may block my IPs, is that correct?
So in short;
IP Issuer = RIPENCC
ASN Assigned = ARIN
IP Used in = EU
Would this be a problem or should I get an ASN from RIPE instead? The reason I want to go with ARIN is because we're a USA company and ARIN is cheaper (only about $300 one time fee for application and ASN registration if I'm not mistaken).
And I won't be announcing any IPs in the US so my ARIN ASN will only be used for RIPE subnets announced in EU.

Comments
Yes, it’s generally fine to announce RIPE IPv4 under an ARIN ASN, even within the EU.
Not so familiar with ARIN but I guess this is usually not a problem. But in case ARIN may ask you to announce at least one extra prefix in ARIN area, you could easily announce a /48 v6 anywhere there.
RIPE will never blame you in this case.
or if you want a RIPE ASN, I can help.
You are mistaken..
You should get an ASN from RIPE instead, if that is where it will be used.
Well I'm confused. Is it fine or not?
Out of region objects in RIPE DB:

It depends what you mean by "fine".
It will work but if you are ever questioned on 'why' you are doing it, will you have a good answer?
I know RIPE has just introduced a yearly fee for ASNs, heard of prices of around $70/year/ASN, but I haven't been paying close attention..
This is one of those situations where, 'if you have to ask, you already know it is wrong'.
@anbelevebel
You can create PRKI for Ripe PA/PI with ARIN ASN, but this is inconvenient. Ripe ASN is only $100/year which is comparable to cheapest Google or Trello plan per employee, and if it does matter for you, you have to review your business.
RIPE ASN is $75/year.
It is comparable to 60 chicken wings.
We have like $200 to my name.
We'd rather have the chicken wings.
I thought RIPE ASN was something around €1500/year whereas for ARIN it’s only $250/yr.
How do you get RIPE ASN for that cheap? preferably directly from RIPE, without using any third-parties because with ARIN you can just get directly from them for $250/yr and a $50 one-time fee.
In RIPE you can only get it that cheap if you are using a sponsoring LIR, which is a third party that handles your ASN registration, you cannot get it done directly through RIPE unless you are a LIR, which requires you to pay the membership fee which is 1550€ (annual) + 1000€ (signup fee).
You have a list of the RIPE LIRs that offer ASN sponsorships [here].
Keep in mind that these prices are out of date, as RIPE has added an additional 50€ yearly fee per ASN that every LIR needs to pay.
What if the sponsor LIR goes out of business or something like that? What are the risks of going with a LIR?
You usually chose a reputable LIR, however, in case that happens you will be contacted by RIPE via email and they will let you know that you need to change your sponsoring LIR, the timeframe to do that is pretty reasonable however I cannot recall the exact timeframe.
AS-Numbers are considered "Provider independant" resources. So as a "non-ripe-member"/end-user you will have to make use of a lir to "sponsor" your resources. The LIR basically acts like a legal tether between you and ripe. If your sponsoring LIR goes out of business then you will have a short period of time to find a new sponsoring LIR (otherwise your resource may be de-registered).
Kind Regards
how much does ripe asn registration cost
@yakoudev
75$ / year
I'm at 100 Euro / Year. That said, this pricing is already adjusted/up-to-date for next year as well.
I will increase that too. I think the member fee is still going higher and higher each year
Factually, if you look at when i sent out the annoucement, and the LIR Thread, then its evident that i was one of the first, to have "some numbers" published. I think that its very important for our clients to have a long-term perspective/outlook and be able to plan accordingly.
What are some big LIR sponsors that I can use? I don't want to go with a small service but rather something corporate-like.
You can't get ASN directly from RIPE. You can do that with LIR companies.
Check around the internet -> a lot of them ask for 200 euros/year, but you can find some for 100 euros annually.
