Jar saves the day, MyW to continue (WAS MyW is closing doors)

I have to say, requesting an affiliate payout on MyW was a bold move and I respect the hustle, with a small laugh.

I'll go ahead and say here, I am not acquiring the former parent company of MyW and will not be assuming any of their financial obligations that do not relate to keeping services online ♥️

Haha, indeed! Respect the hustle. You never know the answer until you ask.

Anyway, I had been away from the forums for a bit, so couldn't chime in on this. I already saw this coming barely a few weeks ago with cancelled licenses etc - well before Miguel threw the towel in.

@MikePT shit happens. Sad that you learnt your lesson the hard way, drained your savings to keep the boat afloat and still allowed yourself to be flogged in public. I hope you land on your feet though, sort your life out and move past this. Chin up!

TBH, I did get my money's worth with the service. 80 bucks lasted ~3.5+yrs. Though, I didn't host any client data and only used it as a glorified sandbox post 2021.

Anyway, thanks a ton @jar for saving the day. It was a mighty generous move on your part. Bet it saved a LOT of asses from getting burnt.

About time unsustainable lifetime deals and shady RO operators get kicked out of here. LET could use a provider clean-up before Black Friday, but then, bilohbucks..

PS: jar.land is one helluva domain you could finally put to use

Honestly, now that @jar is in charge, I don't see "fail spectacularly" at all, and I'm not sure why you say otherwise

What I see is the possibility that @jar may decide to close the MyW-shop at some point, but if he decides to, it will be with ample advance notice (in which case, it won't be "fail spectacularly")

  • @jar said: I guess that's the one I already took care of a day or two ago. Looks like it's working.

Hi @jar , Can you also check Jetbackup issue on wsg1 if possible?
    It's not working since July.

Failed validating license. The error returned from our licensing server: "This license has been set to Cancelled since 06 July 2024"

Wait, so jar took over entire myw project and original owner no longer involved at all? If yes, than it is different thing.

I find your comment very disrespectful. Especially when someone has sacrificed their time and resources to help another human being which positively impacts a broader group.

They won't sell me a new license for the same IP even though the current one is expired. I recall their support being slow. I'm of the opinion it'll take me less time to obtain the login credentials to renew the license than to have their support help me issue a new one manually. Hopefully I'm not mistaken.

even if majority members doesn't agree, i still believe this.
out of goodwill and emotions he took care of it,
new support tickets comes up, new issues will come up...but no new money
so definitely one day he decides to drop the project and my estimation for that will be after an year.

but on other side, good news...people still have 1 year time.

Failing with a bang. Failing with fireworks. Failing but in a positive and yet emotional way.

All this is what we see here. @jar simply made sure we have some handshakes and hugs at this failing event, so that we can all go home happy (but we still have to go home and not remain as overstaying guests at this party).

As a hint for the guests: there is a Black Friday coming in a little over months.

perhaps, but a minor setback is not a failure

Sorry for that, I can relate this comment on me. On my deffence, I requested affiliate payout in May, at that point we had a painting of stable company with plans to extend to VPS offers. And I think that affiliate payouts are a planned marketing expenses in normal companies, just like bilohbucks.

Read the thread, best wishes to @MikePT, and kudos to @jar. Also hats off to the various other providers who stepped up and offered various support or deals. Well done guys. Hope it all works out, but it mostly makes me glad to see good people working things out and making it so customers are not left high and dry. That's cool. Whatever happens, I think this reflects a positive aspect of this forum/community. Word to the skeptics: Not everyone is a troll or a$$hole.

We have decided to keep MyW running and expand it. There will be server migrations. Example:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/vda1 4.3T 4.2T 74G 99% /

We may or may not keep the brand name alive.
