@didtav said: If I remember correctly, @jar is also offering lifetime, right?

If he does (wrt. to MyW), it would be wise to consolidate just to 1 server in 1 location (the wde1 in germany has been the most reliable and sg has been close second) and keep the services going for the lifetimers and start selling monthly/annual hosting plans for new customers and build it up as a sister brand

  • very awesome @jar

@jar maybe get ZAP lifetime dedi and see which lifetime lasts longer  They're in the game more than 10 years, and apparently have total assets in the millions according to Northdata.

That said, performance and reliability is likely going to be better with PHP Friends/Dataforest :)

Good idea, but this would also mean someone has to login in their panel and access the service pages at least once every 3 months.

True :D That said, they now send email reminders with a direct link to the product's dashboard page. It's not that hard. Plus even after deactivation you have 4 weeks to contact them. I just setup a google calender reminder

Just thought, if we're talking hobby/side projects ZAP dedi performance might be just "enough", while sort of allowing to eliminate recurring fees. They've got Germany, US, Finland location afaik

@jar if you are interested in ZAPs lifetime dedis at all, you might wanna talk to ialexpw and rubenmdh (seem to have different names here than on LES) who bought one. I am very sure that ialexpw is on LET, just forgot his name. Was it @iKeyZ (avatar image is the same as ialexpw on LES, so I'd assume they're the same)?

Jarland W, I'm not just MyW client but also MXRoute :)
Best wishes for Miguel, I own 6 LTD with MyW but yesterday I was sad and not upset. I know he has a family to take care (including a kid) and when out of viable options...

I read first page of comments, getting a loan in Portugal with that situation is almost impossible. Even high interest personal loan would ask for last months of salary, which he doesn't have. I "banked" my startup with credit card at 25% rate for years, I managed to get out of that hole but was awful.

Now I regret not buying a lifetime hosting from MyW

If all goes well I hereby promise to give you one of mine for free, if @jar decides to continue with taking the brand and allow transfers of existing hosting plans.

I don't wish to bother their support at this moment, for the reason that right now he will most likely try to decide his future plans for the business and keep customers in the loop with what will be his plans on the long term. It is understandable; everybody wants a safe environment for their data and their business (providers and customers alike).

No. No plans have been announced for the future. Currently the bills were paid to give customers a chance for backups. Customers should create backups as soon as possible.

Jarland will assess MyW business and make an announcement with regards to the future. No long-term plans or promises have been made yet.

    Jar:

Either everyone will be given a year to migrate or it'll just keep running for the foreseeable future. Either way, no one needs to rush to migrate out.

Jar runs my email, and MyW backs them up, and now Namecrane mirrors it too, I'm p sure I'm safe

As a MyW User, Thanks @jar for saving the day.

@MikePT, have interacted with you a little through support tickets, and it was always a pleasant interaction. Hope you get a job soon.

Thanks for the offer but if MikePT is still the one maintaining it I will prefer not using it to reduce the running cost... of course unless Jar decided to take over the brand and handle the business

In my humble opinion it should be both. If possible Miguel should be hired by Jarland. The brand will be kept and owned by Jarland, but maintained by the employee Miguel and possibly others.

Just imagine a hosting powered by reliable email of MXRoute with Miguel's experience in handling hosting. And on top, Miguel won't have to work in a pub anymore, instead chill with a beer at the pub after a day of work.

Anyway, I don't know what is possible and what is not. Maybe I am just day dreaming.

I’d assume MyW doesn’t generate enough to employe someone hence the chaos caused, @NDTN offered him a part time role I believe he should take that and continue to look for something during the day until he gets back on his feet 👌

I am really happy to hear this, I wish MyW a long and prosperous future.

  • Hope @MikePT was able to take @NDTN job offer :)

  • Amazing of Jar to step in even if it's 'just' for a couple of months.

Hopefully we'll get some clarification on time frame and if there will be ongoing support or not for example.

MyW does not enough revenue to pay server bills, let alone hiring someone.

the lifetime subscription money was likely spent somewhere else

That picture should remain in the history of LET, something like:

  • I didn't mean any disrespect. You've been around a long time! I just meant I don't think such plans should be allowed is all. I wouldn't buy one from Hetzner or Digital Ocean, either. Who knows what 5, 10, 15+ years bring to a company. Change of ownership, economic hardship, etc.

FYI when OVH started .ovh extension, they provided 1 domain free "for life"
I got mine for the last 9 years and I just renewed it 10 years... for free :)

@jar I’m not sure if you want to keep running this, but as I did post many pages ago, and you mentioned this as well, I think costs can be cut significantly if that what it takes to keep running it long-term.

For sure look into that at least before you make your mind up, you might be able to financially, at least, make it work.

Then, in a year or so, IF you’re really ready to let it die, maybe @MikePT is back on his feet again and could buy or have (you guys will figure this out) the now profitable business back, obviously in the best of worlds.

Tomorrow I'll probably get a better idea of what @MikePT wants to do. But I definitely have infrastructure that can cut costs. No further than example one: IPXO IPs are just waiting for the IP owner to want them back or for IPXO to be a dick about an abuse complaint, so renumbering is not only justifiable and cost saving, it's inevitable.

-> This meant that 1 of the action to be done is to change the IPs?

    IPXO is no good?

    something like this?

We're moving to Lisbon, buy and help us! LIFETIMES!!! ... but we need furniture, ink, washing machine, so much stuff. You know the drill, we need EVERYTHING. Even curtains! ... so I thought I could launch an awesome promotion ... this'll help us TREMENDOUSLY buying the stuff we need!
