Looking for VPS with port 25

I run a small MSP doing some IT work locally here in the US. Ive been hosting our email server locally but after an incident last week where the server went down and I was unable to get email 2FA codes, ive decided to move it somewhere else.

Im looking for roughly these requirements.

CPU: 2 cores
RAM: 6gb RAM
HDD: 120gb~
NET: 1G maybe 2-3tb?
LOC: USA (preferably close to Tennessee, but technically doesnt mater)
IP: Needs to be static, and not reported in any blacklist database.

Our primary use case

  • Company email (for about 3-4 employees)
  • Automated emails sent from firewalls to our customers (not spam ofc)
  • Probably expected to send maybe 10-20 emails a day or so? Sometimes more on certain days but it averages low

For anyone who is going to ask "Why not just use DirectAdmin?", we might also use this VPS to run some small other software like maybe an UptimeKuma container connected to the email server to let me know when servers go down and stuff or just random scripts.

TL;DR: Need an email server with 2 cores, 6b ram, 120gb hdd, located in US. For company employee emails, NO SPAM, NO NEWSLETTER, NONE OF THAT BS. Needs to have a clean IP.

Lowest price from a reputable provider will win my money :)

Thanks for looking!

  • Colocrossing for the specs, but their IPs are trash. Second to that in price, there is Racknerd at $52.49 per year and their IPs are better. Port 25 open by default.

Gotcha, what would I be expecting price wise for an actual good provider with these specs? Might be able to do this with 4gb ram with no issues honestly.

We have all ports open on our servers including 25 but only location that still have some stock is the Netherlands.

You can contact me if interested.

That can be hard to find on cheap hosts, maintaining a good reputation for your address ranges can be a lot of admin that their margins don't cover which is why many just block outgoing SMTP and don't even try.

Another option is to send through a paid relay service (IIRC you can use MXRoute's services that way) – a host might open port 25 specifically to such a service even if they won't open it globally. In fact you might not need port 25, port 587 (assigned as “message submission” and used for SMTP+TLS via StartTLS) is commonly supported for such purposes and may not be blocked at all. This way you still get full control of your mail (incoming, storage, access, etc.) but someone else deals with source IP reputation for outgoing messages. It is an extra moving part that can go wrong in your mail setup, but that shouldn't be too much of a concern if you pick a reliable service (and switch needn't be difficult if the one you pick goes downhill).

(A little context: I currently run a mail server for myself and a few others, have done for many years, I do have a nice clean address range but should that ever change I'll probably switch to a relay as above instead of faffing around dealing with the issue)

Yeah, I've seen this. I've been told that IP reputation is super important but as someone who's also run a few email servers for a few years I've never found it that important honestly (or at least not as bad as some people make it out to be, it still definetly matters). As long as it's not on a big abuse list and you have email security features like DMARC, DKIM, and SPF enabled on an old domain Gmail just tends to take it from my experience, but my experience is kind of limited.

  • I personally use https://www.smtp2go.com and just configure my server to relay thru them. Been using them for years without any known/made known to me problems.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

I have used @crunchbits and @DataIdeas-Josh for email server and both have worked extremely well. There are not that many providers in TN - I used to live in NE Tennessee - the closest provider I could find were a few in Asheville, but otherwise Atlanta and Ashburn have a lot that have low ping as it seems that the vast majority of data from East Tennessee goes through ATL and Ashburn from every ISP I have seen.

We can help on Namecrane with one of our Crates :)

We just recently put out Spamexperts inbound email filtering which is a huge plus for handling spam, malware, phishing, etc. It's included free with every plan.

  • CharityHost.org ipv4 on VDS in Spring TX all clean to start, as well as oplink.net VPS/VDS

    example ip you would get:

    https://mxtoolbox.com/supertool3?action=blacklist:216.230.228.155&run=toolpage

You just need the cheapest possible or more stable resources like VDS? If it's just for emails, stability is key imo, your emails as you describe it does not really need more than 1 vCPU and 2 GB mem or are you planning to put other services on it? DM me for a custom config for SSD storage if interested.

  • racknerd atlanta with mxroute or mailbaby for outgoing email
the 120gb storage may be pushing it though

    This and......

    this are different.

There's one aspect that I always try to avoid is.... Email server. It doesn't take much time to get flagged for spam with a new operation especially when sending out letters to customers.

If it is employee only, then it becomes different.

Your case is vague because there are different versions in the same post.

  • Ended up going with ShiftHosting because of location and price. Thanks everyone for offers and advice!
