Best VPS focused on Privacy, Price and Anonymity?

Hey y'all!

I'm pretty new to this and was wondering which VPS you would recommend that meets the following criteria:

  • Affordable: No more than €1/month for my budget (weak machine is perfectly fine. Unmetered preferrably)
  • Privacy-Focused: Ideally, they shouldn't track your network traffic
  • Anonymity: Payment methods should be untraceable

I realize I may be asking for a lot, but I hope it's somewhat realistic!

If none of these three points are met, I would gladly welcome any alternative recommendations that are still close to what I'm looking for.

Thanks a lot in advance! :)

You can get the @AvaHosting nano plan for around this budget

    In case this helps:
I've found ovh.ie that offers first 12 months unmetered VPS for 0.81€

Now the question is to the more-experienced people: Is ovh.ie a good choice based on the criterias that I am looking for?

If not, what else would you suggest me?

EDIT: After 12 months ovh.ie the price will jump from 0.81€ to 3.50€ which is something I don't really like. Maybe any suggestions/advices after my first 12 months?

Up your budget a little and his services are basically all you asked for. Definitely worth the cost for me. XMR payment possible.

Solid provider but unless I missed the €1 a month promotion for unmetered connection it’s out the window

  • I don't mean this in any offensive way but are you sure you're not just advertising "any" VPS provider? I've tried researching on reddit and internet but I haven't heard anything of incognet.io

I'll wait for a bit and see what others say, gather thoughts and stuff. I'll definitely keep this one in mind! Thank you:)

Though we cannot meet your budget of $1/mo.

Hardly any provider will track network traffic unless required to do so by law. The feds can snoop in on your traffic on any hop it takes and the Snowden files revealed many backbones cooperating with the NSA.

Anonymity: Payment methods should be untraceable

Any provider that supports cryptocurrency will be fine.

The real question is what your threat model is. Who are you hiding from.
Let's say you're running a personal VPN. Do you just not want some employee of the hosting company to associate your traffic (DNS, SNI logs) with a name? Are you worried about a state agency? Are you being targeted or just want to avoid general broad surveillance?
If you're targeted by a powerful actor there is much more that you need to do to (maybe) have a chance.

Yeah, and a LET post and a budget of €1/month won't do.

Honestly I wouldn't make that distinction based on budget.
You can have great privacy for many threat-models no matter what the service costs if you're on a brand-new machine which is not tied to your identity by fingerprints and what-not, using public WiFi, accessing it over Tor, paying in Monero, and such.

The real question is who puts in that much effort and is willing to put up with the inconvenience.
And if you're being targeted like Assange (or one of his friends) then that still won't be enough.

Try to get Monero AND pay for a VPS for €1

Getting Monero is easy. You can use a KYC exchange like Kraken or swap it on a KYC-less exchange.
There are a number of VPS providers in that price range that accept crypto. Many also accept Monero, but it really doesn't matter whether they do, since Monero swapped into something like LTC to a brand-new wallet for a single transaction will not reduce privacy (assuming you're using a local wallet over Tor).

Yes, but you can't do all that for €1 a month. Fees when buying, fees when swapping, and then getting a reliable VPS with what's left. It's not possible.

    Yeah maybe.
I was taking the 1€ requirement loosely. Maybe you're willing to invest more into your privacy in general but you are a LET user so you try to penny-pinch as much as possible on a VPS :D

If your total budget really is 1€ per month AND you're trying to hide from powerful actors then you might wanna pick up a job at McDonalds.

    Long gone though

  • Hey all!
Too many replies, I don't know where to answer first.

Thanks for all the feedback and support!

What I've come to conclusion is:

    • 1€ won't cut it for something I'm looking for
    • Do not trust redditors lol
    • incognet.io seems to have good feedbacks based off these answers, so I apologise for my earlier statement if it came off rude in any way

Here's my actual plan what I'd like to do once I get a VPS:

    • I currently have a PiVPN at home and am need for a DynDNS, so therefore I'd like to host my own DynDNS in a VPS
    • I'm not really running away from any actors, more what I'm trying to achieve is just avoid "general broad surveillance" like mentioned in one of the replies above. I want to reduce my online digital footprints and also learn a thing or two along the way by hosting them myself

So that's why I'm asking for a cheap VPS and that has some of those qualities, so that I can set it up as DynDNS and can sleep peaceful at night knowing I can trust the VPS providor

If you think a cheap VPS won't cut it for what I'm looking for, I'm open to further feedbacks and would also appreciate more project ideas what I can do in the VPS along the project mentioned above and how to increase my privacy.

No provider here is going to bother your privacy, (inspecting your traffic, reading your files), as long as you're not generating reports or abusing their resources, (which I imagine might be quite hard to do with a private DNS server).

Pretty much any $1 VPS will serve that purpose, but your risk on LET is that you'll either get an unusable service or the provider will deadpool on you with zero notice and 9 months left of paid services owing.

Having said that, there's plenty of reliable providers here. Just go with one that gets plenty of user recommendations because it's rare that a service gets a lot of praise here goes to sh*t within a few months, (but even that happens sometimes)

  • I use PrivadoVPN 1.99 a month but get it for free with Usenet subscription max out 2gbit easy with wireguard, if you want Static IP take an Ionos VPS from 1euro and install wireguard or openvpn script and run it yourself.

Try the Windscribe Pro VPN service from $1 per location

  • 1 euro a month unlimited everything with monero supported? Probably stake.com and then hopefully you can triple or quadruple ur money and buy something close to what you ask for.

Oh sorry just read this part. Hmm - try to get yearly @crunchbits when they are restocked - join discord. @AvaHosting maybe, @ColoCrossing has one for $18 a year , @DataIdeas-Josh has rpi zero for $2.50 a month, GreenCloud has some for like $15 a year. @torchbyte has one for $15 a year. Dunno if they all support crypto or the specific type of crypto you are looking for though. They are cheapest I can think of that are not going to go bankrupt tomorrow.

Incognet and @MannDude have good reputation here on LET, and for good reason. His entire business model is centered around privacy and freedom of speech.

  • I know there are many VPS that don't require KYC and support crypto payments like XMR/ZEC, but there are very few that cost less than 1€ per month.

Of course, we can't deliver quality and good prices for 1€. All have costs.
We have NANO VPS for 11€ and we accept crypto, no KYC required but is not something that will last forever.

XMR is accepted and by paying with crypto no kyc o:)
