It's a Sunday, possibly for that...

But this error on vBulletin, my god. So old...

  • Just a proof! LET It's eternal

  • Wrong forum. LET is not affiliated with WHT in any shape or form. I would even dare to think many around here don't even care about WHT; but maybe this is just my opinion.

Please complain on their support line, their IRC, their admin email, or whatever.

  • Let's not discuss deib at LiquidWeb

This rivalry between forums is not good for anyone - not for LET, WHT, end users, or providers.

If forums die, Facebook groups and Reddit will remain the only places for hosting discussion. And those places are swamped with marketing agents or acquaintances.

WHT is one of the largest forums. It won't be good for anybody if they die.

  • @default said: I would even dare to think many around here don't even care about WHT

I think most people were on WHT before LET became a thing, especially the providers. Having said that, WHT seems to only be useful for providers advertising these days, I saw few consumers there.

It's basically just a dozen providers at this point telling people to look at the offer's forums since you can't directly respond to consumers in a way that may be seen as advertising.

but if WHT is down, more $200 incoming

  • WHT is a terrible and discriminatory forum. I said one good thing about Hudson Valley Host and that flagged my account for ban.

Now HVH is not as good as it used to be. It lost its place when Nick stopped paying attention to that business. That simple.

I did see some more promos from them recently but honestly. I know ColoCrossing owns HVH and they own this forum. They never discriminate. No matter how candid I am about their service quality going up and down over the years.

So even though I don’t use them now. I won’t be surprised if I do in the future. I know their team works hard.

Net net. WHT is welcome to join the ashes.

  • Thanks for contacting LET support.

  • Web Hosting Talk - the forum where talking about web hosting is effectively prohibited.
Such a shame as that forum has/had so much potential. The power-hungry admins/moderators have ruined it.

I don't what to get too deep into it, but WHT is not a community. It is a very large forum/database but NOT a community, with all the good and the bad that a community is.

Exactly. I have seen many instances around here where there were some disasters occuring and the providers are putting their best effort yet, the servers are offline for days. The people address it, and the providers also reply not in a buyer-seller manner but more like we see in a community of simple society.

It was a community in the beginning of 2000. There were a lot of active members who tried to help new webmasters and hosts on all sides. But after 2014, such activity began to decline.

I was registered there on 2002 but found my post only from 2005 https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=431563

Hehe:) I was very very far away from any hosting at those time but people there does so much help with understanding what host need to do from all aspects: choose platform, technical help and so on so on.

Celebrating WHT's failures is always on-topic.

It will be extremely good for humanity if WHT dies.

At least we have the freedom to discuss WHT. Try mentioning LET on WHT and they'll warn you and delete the topic. However, if you post negative things about LET, you have a pretty good shot of having your comment stay.

    Die, WHT, die.

I understand where this heat comes from.

But if it dies, it won't be good for LET. It is the same scenario as shopping malls. People often go to one shop and end up buying from multiple other shops. It is good for business as well as for consumers, as they have many options. However, not as many people will visit if you have a single shop in an area. Bad for consumers as there won't be that many choices. bad for business as there won't be than many consumers. They will always choose a shopping mall over a single shop.

The same is true for forums. Forums are already dying. We need to keep as many as we can so there is an audience large enough to think forums are still worthy enough to find and discuss hosting.

At least we have the freedom to discuss WHT. Try mentioning LET on WHT and they'll warn you and delete the topic. However, if you post negative things about LET, you have a pretty good shot of having your comment stay.

I would like to categorize the nature of the discussion on WHT as not similar to that on LET. I, as well as many others, have never been censored for mentioning or linking to LET. But that does not mean they don't censor. Like I said, the nature of discussion is not the same. I can give them that.

Difference is good. It is diversification. People surely can live side by side despite all differences.

Gandhi never said that. Probably because it's silly.

@default said: If one is evil, it does not mean you should be evil too.

    Evil? Who's being evil?!?

Hoping a forum closes is not evil. Though if mentally disturbed individual ever hoped that LET would close, that definitely be evil.

@MechanicWeb said: But if it dies, it won't be good for LET. It is the same scenario as shopping malls. People often go to one shop and end up buying from multiple other shops.

Not sure your analogy is sound, as this isn't physical space and there isn't that "gravity" effect that retail presences have. But more to the point, multiple forums have started since WHT was born (such as LET). It isn't needed and the industry will be just fine when it finally shrivels up and dies.

@MechanicWeb said: People surely can live side by side despite all differences.

What species are you referring to? Surely not humans.

Anyway...it's not like I sit at night dangling my voodoo dolls of bear and anon-e-mouse over an open flame. I mean, I probably wouldn't even do that if voodoo worked. I don't really give a thought to WHT at all, but if read tomorrow they were permanently 404'd, I would smile.

Exactly. You take my eye so I take yours. When both of us have no eyes, how the fuck are either of us still taking other people's eyes?

  • I'd also like to mention that people here frequently complain when people talk about stuff that isn't absolutely rock bottom pricing, but with WHT being as dead as it is, there is no other forum for web hosting these days.
