I want a 100GB VM with IPv4

emghemgh Member, Megathread Squad

Requirements:

  • 100 GB disk
  • IPv4

I'll pay yearly. The cheaper the better. This will serve for backups for a Hetzner VM that already has backups at Hetzner, so these backups will likely never be pulled.

Cheapest offer gets a sale. Let's see how low it can get.

    Not that bad, but you also did not say what disk speeds would you like. cv1 disks are around 500 kb/s.

    That mean your server will by automatic provisioned using Italian students AI.

    But seriously, do you really need vm? Why not ftp/s3 access?

    I much prefer B2 or R2 to another VPS but Runcloud only allows SFTP or S3 though AWS for backups on their Basic package.

    So if I want S3 I have to use AWS, I worked with some AWS stuff but I always found everything about it convoluted. Might do that though.

    Ohhh i see that you cannot change endpoint URL of S3 storage. Some providers offers (S)FTP(S) managed backup storage.

    They are caching old hostsolution HDD's using Chinese microsd cards. I think that they fix most of the problems because on start it was like 100 kb/s.

    Mount S3 as local folder with JuiceFS / s3fs / rclonemount and then use Backblaze B2 / Scaleway Glacier with 'Local Storage' option in RunCloud.

    More durable than any provider with RAID and cheaper.

    Scaleway Glacier will cost you 2.4euro / year for 100GB/year, but because its billed by GB you'll likely pay less.

    Thanks, yes thought about something like this. Best solution so far easily.

    Anyway, I set it up using AWS for now. Works fine. But damn, configuring access is annoying. I understand the positives of it but for simple stuff like this.. ugh..

    Also extra thanks to @host_c for the best offer, if this dosen’t work out I’ll contact you for a revised offer😆

    If they work with S3 glacier tier (probably not tbh) you can get some criminally cheap prices provided you never need to access the data. High access charges are how they get you on that tier, so it's good for use cases where it will sit for 20 years and never be needed.

    I'm not sure if I did it correctly tbh

    I created the bucket first, default settings on everything

    Then, I created a IAM user with the same name as the bucket

    I linked the new IAM user directly to a 'Permission policy' that I created, again, with the same name as the bucket

    I used this JSON for the permission policy:

    {
        "Version": "2012-10-17",
        "Statement": [
            {
                "Effect": "Allow",
                "Action": "s3:*",
                "Resource": [
                    "arn:aws:s3:::bucket-name",
                    "arn:aws:s3:::bucket-name/*"
                ]
            }
        ]
    }

    And that was it, once I had created the user I got the access key and secret that I could use for accessing the bucket
