Lumen or Cogent VPS in Dallas

  • How exactly am I full of shit lol? Dallas is the prime interconnection point in central US. It is where all the T1s have pops. Do you not know this?

It would be like if I said I was fine with a server in Amsterdam and then someone offers a server in Belgium where it isn't even cheaper.

I'm buying an extra server to improve ping, and if it doesn't improve ping, then there's no point in me spending more money.

    Your argument is nonsense.

  • But unlike those Europeans, you don't care about a marginal gain of 7ms, right? Oh, wait, now you do. Next time, just be smart and quiet...

Vultr? You can ask their NOC for network optimization if there are ping issues.

If I am spending $12/year, I'm going to expect some corners to be cut, and I'm not going to put anything on it that requires a specific ping.

I'm not excusing aeza for doing this. I'm just pointing out that 7 ms is such a small issue if you are paying $1/month. Nobody offers prices like this expensive cities that aren't prime interconnection points.

If you've been in this market for more than a few months you'll soon figure out that this isn't the only deceptive practice around. There are other hosts that offer "unlimited" bandwidth or conveniently hide the fact that they will nuke your vps if it uses more than 30% cpu for more than a few minutes. So if you are paying absolutely rock bottom prices, even by lowendtalk standards, having +7 ping is far from the worst thing that could happen.

Nah, it's just idiotic to say that it's completely normal to expect a budget host selling VPSs in a certain country to tunnel them there while the servers are actually located in another country, and then lie to customers about the location just because you're not paying much.
That's not cutting corners - that's misleading and lying to customers. If you believe that's an industry standard, you're nothing but a moron.

Oh, and by the way, since you talk so much about others being in this market for just a few months, I'm likely one of the oldest still-active LEB members in this community.
I've gone through hundreds of hosts since the early days of the budget market, including names you probably never knew existed. I know exactly what to expect from the budget hosting market, but masking the location and then claiming that your servers are hosted in one country while they're in another isn't an industry standard - it's just plain lying to the clients, and that sucks.
There's nothing, absolutely nothing, to defend here, and yet your ego can't resist defending these shenanigans. But then, ironically, you're the one suddenly bothered by a few milliseconds of ping difference.

@Rockster said: I sort of despise people who believe it's okay and acceptable to be cheated and lied to as long as they don't pay much, but quickly change their argument when their own needs are at stake.

If you are paying $12/year for a vps and don't expect any corners to be cut, you have to take some of the blame as well.

Faking and lying about the location is not cutting corners. No one would blame them if they were honest about it, but what they did is nothing but lying to the clients.
