Introducing the free HoverCraft theme on SlickStack

Over the past 2 years or so, we've been slowly building a free WordPress theme called HoverCraft that is now the default theme for all SlickStack servers. The code is hosted on GitHub, not WordPress.org, to avoid some of the drama and constraints that come with that community...

Instead of relying on WP.org, HoverCraft comes with built-in support for Git Updater, the wonderful tool built by Andy that enables automatic updates of any WordPress theme or plugin hosted on GitHub, GitLab, etc!

There's a few new commands in SlickStack to (re)install HoverCraft as needed:

  • Command: ss install hovercraft
  • Alternative command: sudo bash /var/www/ss-install-wordpress-hovercraft

Ref: https://slickstack.io/forum/topic/what-is-the-hovercraft-default-wordpress-theme-in-slickstack

HoverCraft is not the most elegant WordPress theme out there... however, it's free, open source, and we have focused on adding tons of functionality to reduce the need for coding custom WordPress themes, child themes, starter themes, or relying on page builders or Gutenberg blocks.

Just like SlickStack, it's meant to be extremely reliable, and save you tons of time.

Any feedback or contributions are welcome anytime, cheers!
