[Completed] Free Ryzen 7950X 128GB 2 x 2 TB NVMe dedicated server in Miami, FL, USA, until August 15
Hello!
It has to be fully clear who and where you are and what you want to do on the server. I need to feel sure that you will not hurt either the server provider (ReliableSite) or the kind person who gave the server to me (@MikeA from ExtraVM).
Really I am looking for an engineer or a researcher or a hard working student who wants to show an old guy a few new tricks. In the past, people from MIT and Google have used my servers. It all has been a lot of fun!
Here are links to a few interesting projects that I have seen recently:

You can get in touch with me by posting here, by private forum message here, or by the email on my profile here.
Hope you have a good day! Best wishes!

I just thought of the idea that maybe someone could use this server to integrate something like BashVM into FOSSBilling. Or, perhaps there could be FOSSVM.org, a parallel organization to FOSSBilling? Maybe FOSSVM could bring FOSSBilling's really nice HTML interface to do the job of VM creation in a simple way like BashVM? I posted about this idea over at the FOSSBilling Forum.
Hmm. That would be interesting; a simple panel to manage and create your vm's.
Update from Reliable!
Reliable now has two Neighbors, both with sudo privileges, plus me as root. That's three good people all together!
One Neighbor is working on BashVM and FOSSBilling. The other Neighbor is working on openwrt, docker-swarm, and bgp.
I'm mostly busy on my Chromebook, trying to read some papers written a long time ago.
If someone else wants to use Reliable, maybe we could arrange it. (Please check the OP!) Remember, only a couple of weeks to go now, since Reliable is set to cancel on 8/15.
Thanks so much to @MikeA for making Reliable possible
and to @MrRadic and @ReliableSiteHosting for support!

Please review this project

I can run this project for learning purposes
Any experience with this? I don't think 7950X has Ryzen AI or XDNA.. 8700G does.
Hi @dev_vps!
The page you linked, https://community.amd.com/t5/ai/developer-blog-build-a-chatbot-with-ryzen-ai-processors/ba-p/680693 , says:
The page you linked contains a link to https://ryzenai.docs.amd.com/en/latest/inst.html , which says:
So I am guessing that our 7950X server running Debian 12 might not be the best fit for the Ryzen AI Chatbot?
Maybe you could find another AI model which would run (albeit perhaps less quickly) on the 7950X with Debian 12?
Best wishes!
Tom
@dev_vps @stxsh I've been looking for an open source AI model command line interface that works with standard input, standard output, standard error, and pipes. It's okay if the model is running externally (for example Google Gemini), but a locally running model would be interesting too. Any hints for me? Thanks!
I don’t have any experience with Gemini etc but I do own 7940HS (10 TOPS) that you can pick up for ~$350 during sales (UM790). Another option is Google’s Coral TPUs, there’s a large variety of them for various inputs (m.2, pcie and even usb) that you can pick up for $30-$80 and use with local hardware.
This still requires some scripting — if you’re comfortable with Python you can use that and a TensorFlow library to get started. It’ll be open source and fairly inexpensive (Amazon had the Coral USBs for $80 but i think they retail for $50 when available)
Each TPU is 2 TOPs, and enough to play around with some cool projects locally (check out coral.ai) — although not so great for LLMs.
The 7950X is pretty powerful and could be able to run some smaller LLMs on its own without a GPU. You could take a similar route if you’re using Python, for example, and use TensorFlow and a smaller model — have heard it’s possible but also something I haven’t attempted yet.
A kind person told me about https://github.com/simonmysun/ell.
@Not_Oles
Giving free resources to the people to do FOSS, is very kind and underappreciated.
I looked at the projects using this, and found some gems.
Though, I had also originally intended to make a request for my project at: https://github.com/Azathothas/Toolpacks (I statically compile several thousand CLI programs/tools and provide downloadable binaries)
I think I would need a more permanent solution for a longer duration. On top of that, it would be bad to use most of the resources.
So maybe if you or someone else has another throwaway server now or in the future, it would be very helpful.
If interested, please check: https://github.com/Azathothas/Toolpacks/tree/main/Docs#how-to-contribute
@Azathothas Thanks for your comment! I took a quick look at your interesting project. I have to look some more. I didn't immediately get what compilers(s) you are using. I wonder whether you know about https://github.com/phusion/holy-build-box . Probably you do, but I just thought to mention it in case you didn't know about it and might find it useful. Last I looked Holy Build Box was what Mason was using for the downloadable binaries in yabs. Please keep in touch with me. Please add the email on my LET profile to your mailing list. Please also feel free to send me other stuff at the email on my profile. Good luck with your project!
@Not_Oles
I use the default build system (which differs per project), I have a somewhat rough docs: https://github.com/Azathothas/Toolpacks/blob/main/Docs/BUILD_NOTES.md
About Holy Build Box:
They provide a reproducible build environment with a few static libs and older glibc, however this really doesn't work that well. This also means, it won't work on musl-based distros like alpine, which is the defacto for containers.
I experimented with it and similar build systems before completely switching to musl based env with the latest and greatest static versions of all needed libs.
This means no relying on glibc or any other libs, since everything is statically linked.
I am aware of some of the drawbacks of statically linking everything, however, I have come to realize the benefits far out weigh any such drawbacks.
You could for instance bootstrap an entire linux distro from scratch, without compiling anything and just using a rootfs with static binaries only.

I have bookmarked your site: https://metalvps.com/
Thanks!
Update -- only a few more days. We reinstalled, so here is a new yabs. There are still three neighbors plus me. Everybody has sudo. BashVM seems to work.
Thanks @babywhale!
We could take another user or two if someone else wants to try the server for a few days, maybe with sudo.
Thanks @ReliableSite_Radic!
Thanks ReliableSite Support!
Thanks @MikeA!
Hey, how can I get a machine for free?

Good morning!
Our little project is ended now. Everything has its time. . . .
Four of us enjoyed several weeks together, sharing this fine server. We did a custom HTML5 KVM IPMI Debian 12 reinstall and a few bits of network configuration, including setting up HE Tunnelbroker. We also installed a KVM VPS made with BashVM. One of the guys set up Nix and OMNet++. Everybody shared the root privileges. We talked on a group PM thread. Our PM thread has a lot of messages! Everything all worked out okay!
Thanks to @MikeA for his kind donation which made everything possible!
Thanks to @MrRadic and to ReliableSite Support!
Thanks to the guys who joined!
Overall, this project was a great example of international Low End co-operation! So much server fun! Yaaay!!
Best wishes!
Tom
