NetDynamics Hardware and Software Failure

Got this message:

I am writing to inform you about a critical incident that occurred today affecting our backup storage service in Finland only.
Earlier today, our backup server in Finland experienced both a software and a hardware failure. As a result, we are in the process of migrating to a new backup server. Our technical team is working diligently to restore the data; however, we cannot guarantee full data recovery at this time.
To ensure continuity of service, we can provide you with access to a new backup server. If you have your own backups, you will be able to upload them to the new server immediately. In case you don't have your own backups, then please download your data immediately because we cannot guarantee for how long they will remain intact.
We understand the importance of the data we manage for you and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please rest assured that we are taking all necessary measures to resolve this issue as swiftly as possible.
Also, because of this incident, we will not offer Nextcloud anymore. We will keep up providing our stable backup storage services (without the experimental Nextcloud system).
If you have any questions or need assistance with the new server setup, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in our services.

And:

At this point it is vital to contact us and let us know:
1. Do you have backups of your data or not? Have you already started downloading your data to be on the safe side?
2. Do you want us to try to migrate your data in another backup server of ours?
In case we don't have a reply from you within 3 days (and hopefully the server will not crash until then), the server will be terminated and all data will be lost.
Please contact us immediately start scheduling the restoration plan.
In any case, we are not responsible for any possible data loss as per our TOS.

So they had a problem with their servers (which they cannot guarantee data recovery for), then are also threatening to terminate the previous server with a time of just 3 days (couldn't check you email for 3 days? Congratulations, all data on your backup server is now gone!) They've also terminated a service that was previously promised (NextCloud).

We have a failure in only ONE of our servers for backup storage (not for primary data).
We are trying hard to keep the server alive while migrating all data to our other servers. No data loss up to now. The affected server needs to be replaced with a new one which we plan to do soon.

How much total data is stored in this server?
What's the port speed of this server?
Is it even possible to egress all stored data within 3 days?

The maximum they offer is 10TB, so yes, it might not be possible for all users to download all the data - if it is even accessible - there might be bandwidth issues, data limits, even availability of drive space to download it.

What @NetDynamics24 promises on their website is "Sleep better at night knowing you are insured. "

What can actually happen is. If you miss an email for 3 days or could not download the data within 3 days, the server can be terminated and all data can be lost at any time.

We understand the importance of the data we manage for you

I don't see how this is true at all.

As we told you in the ticket, it is an emergency, not something we planned. There are many failures and lot of techs are working hard to keep the server stable until all data migrated to our other servers. Would it be best to say that the disks failed and all data lost? As said, we try very hard to move the data and we don't have any loss up to now. As for the 3 days period, it is critical to shut down the server and replace all faulty parts and setup it again. Yes we will be able to move all data within 3-4 days if nothing unexpected happens. We have already managed to move over 70% of our clients accounts including yours.

But then, it's backup storage, so that a failure isn't as critical as long as the customer isn't experiencing a data loss event at the time.
The provider has offered a replacement account right away so that the customer can start uploading new backups to the replacement account.

I surely must be missing something, but why not just put the disks into a new server?

If the server is unstable, wouldn't that risk corrupting the filesystem and/or data on the disks?

Because among many other failures, there are faulty disks too. Fortunately the RAID array helped not lose any data by rebuilding the array.
If you are one of our clients, you can contact us.
By the way, more than 90% of accounts have been transferred already without losses.
