Blesta: leave your opinion

Guys, what is your opinion about Blesta? Do you think it is worth migrating from WHMCS to Blesta? What are the pros and cons of the system?

I'm using Blesta on all my brands. I prefer Blesta over WHMCS.com as it's more opensource. Modules/Plugins are cheaper to make also :) Had no issues so far

They all suck. Every single panel sucks. That said, Blesta isn’t great from experience, Hostbill is good enough if you’re not importing data(it becomes a nightmare), WHMCS is the better option for generalized solutions, even though it does suck.

  • Personally I would choose for my use case WHMCS, but that is for my use case. So look at what you need first, then test both and see which fits those needs more so.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

Is it difficult to migrate from whmcs to hostbill?

My opinion, as a regular user of these:

    Blesta > WHMCS >>> HostBill

    Blesta is snappy, loads in a fraction of a second;
    WHMCS is decently fast but has some mystical magical AJAX here and there, that kind of AJAX that you never know if a page has truly finished loading or if you might need to wait some more;
HostBill: fuck it, slow and low data density. Every click takes 5 seconds and you constantly scroll up and down over blank space.

  • From a developer point of view, Blesta simply makes sense the most - Open source, code is clean and extensions follow OOP MVC-ish design which is easy to follow.

Now, not everyone is a developer but you will benefit from that when you need a small change made (which you're bound to eventually with any software) or a plugin done by a developer (As Hostcay mentioned above cost-wise).
And if you're fine with tinkering, you can easily find small tweaks on the forums or experiment on your own.

As with everything it does have its quirks and occasional bugs, though I'm yet to hear anything major or for the UI/UX to be illogical/unintuitive like you sometimes hear of WHMCS.

One thing that comes to mind for the above two paragraphs which was a surprise to me: There are no HTML email templates, which is a bit annoying if you want fancy emails, though to add that there's a forum post that gives you two lines to edit and where to put your template and... you're done...

As long as you remember that a smaller team works on Blesta, is cheaper overall, and you might have some upfront costs to get some extensions to complete the experience you want, you'll be good.

  • I have used WHMCS for almost 14 years and moved to Blesta recently. However, they lack a few functions (that WHMCS has) other than that Blesta is love.

I could see the progress board for Blesta development and can see they are growing very fast in the development of new functions/options.

Blesta is much better than others and highly recommended.

Blesta is stagnated crap. No proper domain management for years. Development cycle is sporadic because only few key devs working. Open source you say? Did you ever try to perform some major mod of blesta? They coding is horrible. Insane amount of time must be poured to even take a grasp at their php “framework”.

Hostbill is a good choice if you have clean start. They offer custom dev service. Thought, it is very expensive. They do not care for backward compat, if you skip few months of updates - pray the God.

Whmcs - industry standard and functional leader. Everyone has opinions on it, but it is good software overall. One little tiny drawback: it is designed to milk money. It is not long term solution.

Custom made - the proper way to go. Of course for poc projects it is no go, but for long term plan it is the best.

Honorable mentions - clientexec. Deved by single person afaik. Eratic dev cycle, empty promises and total stagnation. But at least it works and if you compare, give it a try. For some it is a good choice.

I don't like blesta, everything is so complex, it makes you ask for support for every small thing because of how confusing it is. I used to ask atleast 3-4 times a week regarding on how to do this how to do that. I'm one of the few who has migrated from Blesta to WHMCS and I've enjoyed using it ever since. I've never asked anyone on how to do this or that as everything was easy to understand and there was even helpful guides. WHMCS even has a dedicated support for users buying WHMCS from resellers unlike Blesta where you have to depend on community members who aren't much of a help.

Another good thing is that WHMCS staff will help you a lot! I recently had a issue where paypal payments weren't being detected and in just a week it was resolved and when they explained something with a lot of tech terms I asked them to re-explain in simpler words and they were happy to do so.

  • I prefer ClientExec, easier & faster than blesta.
    Clientexec support is also amazing.
I am having an lifetime blesta license. But never used it in major projects. Tried to use but didn't like their admin & user panel much.

  • They have a free trial, have a play around is the best advice :)

I've used it for years, absolutely prefer it over whmcs! There's a learning curve as with any software - if you take the time to learn it, it's much more adaptable than the other options and probably the best community if you need help with something out of scope of core support

Price shouldn't factor into your decision in my opinion, but it more than beats whmcs!

Personally, it's not even a choice to me! The mere fact they're willing to listen to users rather than hoe themselves out to whoever will pay them the biggest commission for a marketplace they can then over charge their users for.... well that's not a business model I see improving for their clients.

  • It offers great flexibility and a one-time payment option, which can be appealing. However, keep in mind that there might be a bit of a learning curve, and it has fewer third-party integrations than other options.
Whether or not to make the switch comes down to what you need and what features and pricing matter most to you.

Blesta is excellent from an administrative perspective – it is easy to manage, efficient, and highly stable. However, the client UI needs improvement. Many users find it confusing and believe it requires an update to become more user-friendly and modern.

  • Whmcs has a bigger developer community. You can find a lot of module for every need.
Blesta for me its very basic

I have been testing out Upmind for a few months now. Coming from WHMCS, there is a learning curve, but so far I have found it quite impressive. Perhaps worth considering.

Upmind looks promising but their pricing, atleast from their website if you don't factor in the free beta does not look promising.

For us fx they'd be 3x the price of WHMCS, I don't see us moving out of a tested system into another system that has less features for 3x the price.

  • For Italian and EU market miss all part about electronic invoice and miss a lot of translations. I suggest to Blesta to improve developer community. WHMCS has a very big community developers and modules. The native features of Blesta it's poor compared to WHMCS

  • zmeuzmeu Member

The difference between them is the price. Some people just want a reason not to use it, so that's why Blesta are difficult for some, but the software it does its job very well.
