    Fixed, I've ordered a IPv6 /44. :)

Are there still IPs starting with the number 1 available for sale on the market?

    For example:

    1.5.8.0/24

Is it still possible to find such short-numbered IPs?

  • IPXO's service is not good enough, looking for a new LIR service provider that can provide IPv4 /24 registered in RIPE.

    Just go with iFog then.

I would recommend a serious LIR, if you don't want to be moving from time to time.
Of course, if you need the cheapest shit you can find, then meh... not too many options.

Whats wrong with iFog? And who do you recommend as a "serious" LIR?

  • AndreixAndreix Member, Host Rep

From my experience with them (or him, as it's only one person - Ruben), iFog is used to ghost the clients... become unresponsive in critical times. I personally would avoid such providers for any kind of service, even if it's toilet paper provisioning.
HostUS also. You may end up with your service terminated or price increased overnight.

I am currently with StaClar, Inc - not on the lowend side, but very happy with the service.
From what I saw and heard @RickBakkr and @SGraf are working hard to provide a flawless customer experience.

Glad it worked out for you. For me it didn't.
After my last reply, another week passed without any input from iFog and, since I risked losing my ASN, I signed up with StaClar. Transfer was completed in 72h.

So yeah, go with iFog if you wanna potentially risk losing resources. :)

Its sad that you had that experience, I have had some diffeculties reaching him but I always got a reply in time since nothing was in a hurry for me, I hope StaClar works out for you. I am migrating my stuff away as well to my own stuff. Way easier since I own the stuff instead of someone else.

yes, as Andreix experienced similarly, iFog indeed often doesn't reply to message

  • I was looking to rent a 24 subnet but am worried about the providers. If they come and ask to close the contract, it will be a mess if we use it for a VPS node or something!

Totally a valid concern and glad you're thinking along these lines.

Here are some tips you can try follow

    • Confirm that the provider is leasing you their own IP space and not acting as a middle man (removing risks and links in the chain)
    • Ask the provider if they have ever had to reclaim IP space from other clients prior to the end user returning/cancelling
    • Ask for a contractual agreement that IP provider must give a minimum of X months warning before reclaiming (unless you the client void their ToS)
    • Ask the provider if they have historically adjusted the monthly cost of the IPs mid way through a lease (being vendor locked with a randomly high new monthly price is something you would want to avoid too)
    • You can also sign up on a yearly term with the provider (probably even getting a prepayment discount in the processes) if your financials allow it.

Sure, the provider can lie and at the end of the day they can even go bust or just break all agreements and reclaim the address space anyways, but these are just some way you can add some confidence.

Speaking of which, we have still some small amount of RIPE and ARIN IPv4 space (our own space) available and ready to be leased, if you are interested feel free to get in touch :)

Thanks to both of you. I appreciate it a lot. We provide services that a lot of competitors provide as well. We cannot beat on being unique, we cannot beat on being the cheapest. But I can promise one thing: we do our very damn best to be at your service.

That being said, this of course also goes for many other providers/LIRs out here. We know iFog very well, and in some things we work together.

As goes for all services: please go with someone with whom you feel at home, with whom you feel appreciated, someone you trust.
