Awesome, thanks! I am in Western Canada, so a US provider would be better...

Hetzner
40GB for OS and add 1 TB block
@vansens - Since someone mentioned us at Hetzner -- You could also consider getting one of our cloud servers and a Storage Box: https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-box/ The performance on the Storage Boxes will be slower, but the price is lower than with our block storage, which we call "Volumes".
See also:
Volumes: https://docs.hetzner.com/cloud/volumes
Storage Box: https://docs.hetzner.com/robot/storage-box
Alternatively, you might also want to consider a dedicated server from our Server Auction:
https://www.hetzner.com/sb/ See also: https://docs.hetzner.com/robot/general/server-auction-faqs --Katie
@vansens

Or, if it suits your needs, we can consider a backup storage service / storage box. Here, you can get 1 TB of Storage for $4 or 5 TB of Storage for $14.
EDIT: OP is looking for North America, but this is a hell of a deal in Europe...
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Hostbrr's Premium Storage VPS yet: https://my.hostbrr.com/order/main/packages/storage/?group_id=26
2 vCore AMD Ryzen 9 7950XD
4 GB DDR5 ECC RAM
60 GB NVMe Gen4 Storage (Primary Disk)
Configurable HDD Block Storage (500 GB Included)
10000 GB Bandwidth @ 1 Gbps
1 IPv4 & IPv6/64 included
1 Backup slot included
Hosted in Falkenstein, Germany
With the additional Block Storage it's either $14.50 p/m for 1TB or $19.50 p/m for 2TB. The modern hardware and decent primary disk make it seriously competitive.
I run my Immich instance on a 150GB SSD VPS and have the photo data on Backblaze B2, mounted via JuiceFS with a generous cache on the local SSD. It works very well, fast for recent photos (depends on your cache size) and even if I am skimming through the archive, past the cache, looking for a photo or loads them (from B2, across the internet) reasonably fast.
I prefer this because I think B2 is price-vs-reliability-wise better than a VPS drive, I only pay as much as I use and it can grow indefinitely. I have plenty of other more and less reliable VPSes but sleep well at night with my Immich drive on B2.
I think moving just the thumbnails onto the SSD as well should hide the latency completely.
Thank you for the excellent advice!
Amazing deal from a premium provider
