So let's say I want to Encode some video material is this considered fair use ?

How about consider based on the amount you'll pay them for the service? Can't you conclude which is fair use or not for €8.99?

Reasonable use has at least one scope

  • Dont get me wrong, the deal looks good, also the bench is impressive to be clear.

It's a little concerning that the host is unable to define what is considered fair use for cpu/ transfer.

It cannot be left open for interpretation. If a number is not possible, a reasonable range should be listed (like 5tb-7tb etc / not more than 15 minutes continued core usage every 3 hours etc etc).

This reduces burden and concerns for both host and customers in the long term

Mods, time for some rules to be added in general to have a well defined policy?

    Fair Use:
We don't have a direct limit, but it should be fair for us as a provider and for the customer. Traffic, especially when it comes to traffic with DDoS protection, is not particularly cheap. If you have specific consumption figures, please let us know and we will be happy to estimate them for you. Thank you for your understanding.

No, we don't know how much they pay for traffic - just two examples for different pricing:

    • For 49€/mo you can get 1 Gbit/s unmetered from Zet, which would be around 80 TB for 8.99€
    • For 424.83€ you can get 333 TB traffic from aurologic, which would be around 7 TB for 8.99€

Of course these are examples which are very different (Zet without and aurologic with DDoS protection) and there are also server costs, but IMHO fair use could be anything between 1 TB and 200 TB and it would be helpful for both sides if the provider clearly defines fair use. (The same applies for CPU usage.)

What is the average CPU usage rate? What is the traffic volume?

Fair Use, whatever that may be, for me 150tb traffic is fair usage.

Then we have a different view here with such a price and the network in Frankfurt, 150TB is definitely not fair use.

Exactly, so why don't you put that ? So what do you consider fair use ?

For 9 euros you want 150TB...?

    Where can I get 150TB @ 1Gbit for 9eur?

Lol it's about advertising, what is considered fair use ? That's my question.

Using as much as you actually need and not trying to peg the port for the sake of it. The storage is 300GB, how do you balance 150TB with a 300GB disk?

If you plan to use it as a proxy/Tor/I2P just for the generous traffic policy, you're clearly only ordering it with the intention of trying to find out what the fair use limit is, not with the intention of using it for "normal" activities

order and find out... we had this topic some weeks ago with dedicated cores. :)

  • Regarding fair use it's 5TB as mentioned by OP on their previous thread:

For 8,99€/Month it's a steal deal for me.
I have got 2 of these from their spring offer thread.

Putting the onus on the customer probably shows that the provider is not clear with themselves on where to draw the line. What happens if the usage exceeds? What happens if the usage is on the lower end?

Nothing wrong in that, but, effort should be put to start identifying the same.

Literally saying XXXTB usage for $8.99/ month is too much - then lay out what is acceptable.. Once again, listing a range is much easier than putting it out on customers.

IDK Maybe they will charge something for over that quota bandwidth.
They can answer this one better.

It seems that the gentleman does not agree with our offer and is now trying to confuse the LET users. The servers are activated automatically.

@PrepaidHost can be two servers combined in one server?
