That being said. This is a fantastic offer. I just wish it was a little more closer to APAC.

    Maybe one day ;)

    true.

200ms ++ latency is not fun.

    The Barebone :
    ...
1 Free Backup Slot on all drives
    ...

What does 'Backup Slot' mean? Backup (via ftp or what) of the same size as drive(s) or what? Please explain.

    Addons Available:

    Add-on Storage Drive Upgrade:

    x GB – y USD / MO or z USD / Quarter

    Raid'ed? If so, level (1, 10, 5, etc.)?

    Monthly Traffic

    +5 TB - 0.5 USD / MO or 1.5 USD / Quarter

It would seem sensible and attractive to me to include traffic with add-on storage drives, meaning if one takes e.g. 1 TB add-on storage one also gets and additional 1 TB traffic (possibly slightly increasing the drive add-on cost but still better than having to take the "smallest" 5 TB additional traffic package).

Also, can you please provide availability info? (What's the SLA if existing).

    Thanks

1 Backup slot for the whole VPS to a Proxmox backup Server hosted in the DC.

    @jsg said: Raid'ed? If so, level (1, 10, 5, etc.)?

As I said before, the add-on drive you get ( raw or qcow2 ) is on a RAID 6 HW array.

SLA - not defined for the moment, but usually it is within 24H.

Done by you? By the customer via Panel, or how? Also: Size of backup slot = size of VPS' total storage?

Apologies. I only saw that later, sorry. Your response sounds satisfactory to me (especially when considering the price).

I get it, you seem to be at a somewhat early point in that products cycle, but come on, give us something like 99.x%

    Customer via the panel.

Attention, not all products have this option.

First time offers of the 5TB Promo had this option for the boot drive only, we had to take it out of the product, as the process on Backup-Restore does not allow to restore a specific drive. It first deletes the whole VPS then recreates it from the backup, and the backup only contained the Boot Drive, not the add-on also.

After the first customer signaled that he lost the ADD-ON drive, we took out that option on the involved products.

Backup Slot size is = Total VPS size with all of it's drives.

@jsg said: I get it, you seem to be at a somewhat early point in that products cycle, but come on, give us something like 99.x%

We aim, as all, for 100% uptime. a 99% will be considered OK in my point of view for any provider ( 3.65 days down / year ).

Only downtime we do are for maintenance, mainly patches / HW upgrades or other type of interventions that are necessary for the infrastructure to be up to date and patched accordingly.

These are usually announced in advance via e-mail and on our website, we already done this before. largest downtime was ~4 weeks ago, ~10 minutes for ipv4 and ~3 hours for IPV6. we changed the whole routing logic in the Oradea DC and corresponding appliances.

    EDIT:

As an example, for the network infrastructure we have, for the past 1 year we have a 99.982 uptime, with all the maintenance we done so far.

Hmmm, is there another way to use the backup, sth. like (s)ftp, scp ... I'm asking because the current solution doesn't look trustworthy to me, especially when not using linux.

Backup Slot size is = Total VPS size with all of it's drives.

Sounds good to me (if actually and reliably usable).

You can install any backup software and do your backups also.

This is actually tested by some customers, you can divide the add-on disk into multiple smaller disks.

Disclaimer, this will delete the current disk and all data on it so please pay attention.

You can delete the add-on drive in your panel, and add it again with different size ( total size of drives cannot exceed the one on the contract for that service )

For example, you can delete the 5TB drive and add 2 x 2.5 TB ones if you wish.

@jsg said: Sounds good to me (if actually and reliably usable).

We never had a problem with it so far. only thing/limitation is it cannot do backup and restore for specific drives, only on the whole vps and it's drives.

For the moment we can offer only this option. We are punishing the developers to offer something else, I doubt this will change in the near future.

PS: As a side note regarding SLA, we will stop a node or other in the infrastructure only as a last option, or if there is no way / possibility to do the maintenance/task.

@host_c so for storage boxes with 5tb addon (you released sometime back), is it safe to say that backup slots are available for whole system at the moment?
Or just for nvme based (without addon storage)?

No, all the promo offers included the setting of backup only on the boot drive and I described why we were forced to take it out.

"First time offers of the 5TB Promo had this option for the boot drive only, we had to take it out of the product, as the process on Backup-Restore does not allow to restore a specific drive. It first deletes the whole VPS then recreates it from the backup, and the backup only contained the Boot Drive, not the add-on also."

Work is in progress to create a large enough SAN to accommodate this option again, but with the possibility to backup up the whole VPS ( boot drive + any number of add-on drives ). No ETA for the moment, but is in progress for what I can disclose for now.

The limitation is in Proxmox + Proxmox Backup. Restore functions the folowing way:

First deleting the VPS then restoring it from the backup.

If the backup has no add-on drive, that one is not restored and it will be missing as it was deleted at the start of the task. As a result, you will have the boot drive restored from backup but you will be left with no add-on drive/s.

    To avoid confusion:
Does that mean that the data on the drive/volume/partition that gets backed up get deleted?
    -or-
does that mean that whatever data is on the backup (target) drive gets deleted, which seems to suggest that currently (a) only all drives (boot + additional storage) can be backed up in one swoop (as opposed to only this drive or that partition), and (b) there can only be 1 backup volume and whenever a backup is done any earlier backup get deleted/overwritten?

You can delete the add-on drive in your panel, and add it again with different size ( total size of drives cannot exceed the one on the contract for that service )

For example, you can delete the 5TB drive and add 2 x 2.5 TB ones if you wish.

So, in short, one can treat it like a drive, on which one can create partition tables of any type one likes (e.g. DOS, GPT, ...) and as many partitions as one likes (just like on real disk drive, right?

We never had a problem with it so far. only thing/limitation is it cannot do backup and restore for specific drives, only on the whole vps and it's drives.

I guess (and got) that that answers my question above, but as this concerns a vital question (nobody likes risking to lose all data of a drive) it can't harm to really make it perfectly clear.

For the moment we can offer only this option. We are punishing the developers to offer something else, I doubt this will change in the near future.

Frankly, I'd certainly prefer to be able to chose which drive or partition I want to backup - BUT: As at least the additional storage is RAID based and considering the price IMO what you can and do offer in terms of backup looks quite acceptable to me.
My only remaining concern is that the backup seems to only work via the panel, which I dislike a lot because I usually use the panel mainly or only for install/setup.

Whatever, all in all nice offer! I like it (as well as the fact that you respond relatively quickly and friendly)

    Thank you!

P.S. If I may, how about my question re. "how about additional storage coming with additional traffic?". You see, If I'd take say, a 2 TB additional storage I would want to know that I've got the traffic to actually up- or download to/from it, and as the smallest traffic add-on package´is 5TB I'd feel that I'd have to buy way more traffic than I need. On the other hand, a cumulative traffic allowance like "you get traffic equal to the size of all additional storage for free up to 3 times per year or after each period of 4 months during which you stayed within your normal traffic limit"

Logic: One doesn't transfer a whole big database or gazillions of images or whatever twice a week but only rarely, so the normal traffic volume is fine. But occasionally (1 to 3 times/yr) one might need to transfer large amounts of data, so it would be nice to have a cheap solution for that.
