[Recommendations] Cheap VPS providers to host intensive applications like XMR nodes and Hentai@Home?

Hi everybody, I'm looking for cheap providers which will:

  1. Allow TOR traffic, since I plan to host an XMR node over TOR/Clearnet
  2. Allow intensive (and partially restricted) applications like Hentai@Home.

I know that this depends on each individual provider's AUP. I rent a Racknerd VPS at the moment with a US IP so that's a no-go but I was wondering if Racknerd would let me do this in Europe. I am also considering Frantech.

My budget is ~$3 a month. I'm not going to do anything crazy, just some containers with 3-4 applications (1-2 vCPU, 1.5-2GB RAM should be fine). I'm mostly worried about individual AUPs here.

If there are providers who do not have a problem with me hosting said services and would like to offer deals in the comments, please feel free to do so. I will consider everyone who is recommended and comments here.

Edit: since we're talking about this, would also appreciate leads on cheap VPSes to run a TOR exit node on. Again, I'm aware of Frantech, but I'd like to know about other providers in Eastern Europe/Asia who would be open to me doing this. I've gone over the TOR foundations' list and have been looking at st-hosting and Netcup too, if anyone has used them/has any recommendations for me.

to recap: I want to run -

  1. Hentai@Home
  2. XMR node over TOR
  3. Possibly a TOR exit node

My budget is around $3 a month. Please let me know if you have any offers/recommendations.

Thanks!

  • I saw you left disk space requirement out..
My guess you will need minimum 250 SSD
are you asking for 250GB storage for ,$3(~$2 after fees)?

  • Resource hog on bargain deal = complicated. Tolerance for TOR exit on top of that = good luck OP.

  • No, I am looking for a separate storage VPS for 512GB or so for ~$2-$3 (would be great if you'd know about that too, I was going to make another post for it after getting my choices here)

I understand if I can't host a TOR exit node on the same machine. I'm willing to reconsider that, would you know anything that will let me host the other two (at the least) on a VPS?

For the specs, that is quite a decent deal. Yes it's beyond my budget, but thank you I will keep this in my notes

If it is not a TOR exit note:

    Layer7 — €2.62 / month
    2 Intel Cores (shared)
    8192 MB RAM
    80 GB NVMe
    25600 GB/month bandwidth
    1.0 Gbps port speed
    IPv4 + IPv6
    Germany

This is suitable for streaming porn and for TOR relays, but not for exit nodes.

For an exit node, I guess only Calin, Jesus, and the first amendment may help. (*)

    * not legal advice because I think it doesn't make sense :)

  • just had to google Hentai@Home and I was disappointed.

This is an exceptional deal. Where can I sign up? I'll put this at the top of my list

  • You will have to increase your budget. Tor is super cpu/ram and especially bandwidth intensive. It can easily use 100TB+ in bandwidth. At that price, you are going to run into a lot of issues with hosts complaining about you using up too much bandwidth or the cpu being maxed out at 100% 24/7.

So if you plan on hosting a tor node, I would definitely recommend that you look for a hosting provider that has VDS or Dedicated server with Unmetered Bandwidth. DDoS Protection is also recommended as the Tor Network is currently experiencing lots of ddos attacks against its tor nodes.

Hi, the TOR exit node is not a requirement. I can run a separate VM for that, no problem. The other two though, those would be essential services for the VM that I'd like

  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've never seen ANY provider allow an exit node on their VPS lineup.

The few hosts that DO allow exit nodes require you to purchase a dedicated server.

    For $3?

BuyVM from $24/yr allows them (do keep in mind tor project discourages hosting more nodes on their network as there's already too many)

Never knew that with BuyVM! Not surprising in principle but definitely surprising they allow it on a low end VPS.

Thanks, and I understand. Unfortunately, I'm unable to edit my post to put this in; running a TOR exit node on the same VM is a wish, not a requirement. I'm fine with that not being permitted, I was just hoping that someone would indeed permit it. No big deal

TBH if I don't get a Layer7 box, BuyVM is what I'm seriously looking at.
