Review request for Pulsedmedia

Hey folks, I have just purchased the M10G XL for the 4th of July sale.

I have looked up on the forum as well as on reddit about Pulsedmedia. Most of them are ofc negative but i have heard that some of them are too biased.

I would like your updated reviews on PM. I have also been trying to reach support since jellyfin is not working when i used their script. Pretty sure I didn't change a single thing. I'm always getting a HTTP 503 error for some reason. I'm now a bit skeptical about PM.

Please share your reviews and exp.

Thank you

  • I currently have a seedbox, and two dedicateds with Pulsed Media.

I can tell you the seedbox has been rock solid twice in the last two years did I have to get it rebooted, but this was not an issue to me. Odd issue, and this just might be my connections, but I can not pull more then 150Mbps off of a seedbox, but truly not an issue as well these seedboxes are not just used for Linux ISOs; so I can wait 6 minutes for that ISO to get to my desktop.

The dedicated, I did not use their preinstalled configurations, I had the default Debian install done. Thus allowing me to install my own panel/setup. My two dedicateds are not used for seeding but for web services. If you would like a download test: https://pulsed.downloadspeeds.xyz/

Now I have had to have my latest servers OS reinstalled, now this was a bit of a unique situation. Nothing bad, but took some time.

    Inital Request: 28.06.2024 (04:54)
    I bumped the request: 29.06.2024 (07:31)
Staff Response of "Please confirm you want to format this.": 30.06.2024 (08:17)
My Yes fire away: 30.06.2024 (15:29)
    Server Welcome Letter: 30.06.2024 (15:32)
    Unable to Connect: 30.06.2024 (19:16)
Staff issued Hard Reboot: 01.07.2024 (10:30)
    Still Broken: 01.07.2024 (13:36)
Staff, Opps forgot something: 02.07.2024 (12:47)
    Staff, All fixed: 02.07.2024 (14:27)
    Me, Confirmed: 02.07.2024 (15:50)

Now I am not complaining, but that was a several day process for an OS reload, but again, I am not upset.

That has been my experience so far.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    Anthony

    Bad provider.
Increase €18/year "recurring" to €81/year because "increased electricity cost".
    No IPv6.

  • Plenty if you google it.

Seedboxes are highly recommended. I had an absolutely great experience with these. I consider this their greatest point.

    With dedicated servers... it depends.

Dedicated server is pretty good if you need a nice amount of memory with plentiful nvme, perfect for databases imo. Generous bandwidth is great too.

    Use cases: streaming, transcoding, databases

However, uptime is okay, not great, network is okay, not great. It's not a production host, far from it.

Seedbox wise, pay more, pay for the bandwidth, go with ultracc. Far better speeds, support and overall experience. If you want to long term seed it might be okay, the storage boxes aren't great.

I like my dedi, it's super handy as my connection isn't the best but ultimately I don't think I'll renew when I get a gigabit home connection. It really depends on your use case.

Edit: if you need support installing things, stay away, support is poor, you don't really pay for great support but if you're inexperienced go elsewhere. Otherwise you might end up in the discord echo chamber

  • I have one of their MD (was 50% discount).

    Good:
    1) Price (50% discount)
    2) Download speed - full gbit.

    Bad:
    1) Impossible to set RDNS. They dont offer such basic feature. Wish I could knew this beforehand - would not ordered server.
    2) Not happy with upload speeds in p2p.
    3) Sometimes unannounced maintanance(s) or whatever - you can see just that server was restarted. Owner said here that MD is somehow shared with 7 other boxes, if I remember correctly (same power line or something). So in that regard it feels less like "dedicted".

Been running PM seedboxes for...4 years? 6 years? I forget how long. Never had an issue that I recall.

Yeah, p2p upload you can do many hundred mbps, likely not on private torrents where everyone is using better boxes on 10-40Gbit connections. I've only managed it on open source public torrents.

Indeed, it seems like the machines are racked like blades in a shelf together, therefore maintenance of one machine causes downtime for all others on the same shelf. Like most LET hosts, good for compute but not uptime, batch transcoding would be perfect.

A big selling point is not having to be too concerned about DMCA on the dedis (don't be stupid obviously). Ultimately I don't think PM do anything massively wrong, they're just not right for a lot of use cases.
