I admit that it's kind of funny (like those Cyberbunker IPs located in Antarctica, which were likely be a bit favorable regarding the possible side effects though). Beyond that it's probably not going to do a whole lot as it's not really rocket science to figure out where the boxes are actually sitting and it's not like those geolocation tricks are so new or uncommon that they'll push interested parties off track. It's mostly just a funny gimmick to get a crazy flag in Teamspeak or whatever other service shows location data without freaking out over the country in particular.

It's about how many have asked for North Korean ips. I can hardly imagine that a single customer really wanted that. :D

I would definitely want that. I wanted a North Korea VPS for quite a while, but such exotic location is really expensive due to regime in country. Now I just need to wait for a good low-end offer from @Calin to make my dream come true. I also need to figure out a way to make an IPv6 VPN because I don't know if @Nyr scripts support IPv6.

I can actually see it. People (especially the warez crowd) often times aren't exactly the brightest bunch and it's totally possible that some thought that slapping an NK label on the IPs would make some notable difference in abuse handling when in reality it'll probably not do a whole lot besides maybe confusing a couple dumb bots. It's basically a vanity thing that should come with a huge warning to not use it for anything serious.

Even if the script doesn't work, setting up a VPN isn't overly complicated to begin with. Scripting the whole thing is adding a bit of convenience but in the end it'll probably save you about half an hour at best.

Have you seen how many people watch social media all day? Many people are not serious to begin with. This idea might actually sell like hot bread, which is what makes it great.

Social media probably won't even be the problem. It's rather financial institutions and government stuff like others pointed out before (no i wouldn't put @Calin 's services anywhere near such things to begin with - no offense). I don't see the big appeal either. Yeah, i get it, having a NK flag in this or that service is funny but beyond that, what's the point? It's not like this is an actual NK VPS after all (which for all that matters simply don't exist - how NK handles internet things is pretty well documented) but just some wrongly tagged IP range. It would certainly result in a good laugh if i showed up in Teamspeak with this and someone noticed but that's pretty much over after like 5 minutes. If anyone sees further potential in this i obviously wish more power to them though.

I have created a ticket to reassign a romania ipv6. Not sure why such a move to assign to everyone , even if someone asked for it.

True. This is a great option to have, but it should be an option.

Maybe @Calin can set an option in ordering forms, before checkout: IPv6 North Korea, or IPv6 Romania. This way customer may choose. I don't know if this is possible though.

Just assign IPv6 in Romania by default and the option to ticket and ask for North Korea instead.

I've heard of cases of American banks freezing people's bank accounts after they logged in using an Iranian IP address (specifically when traveling, in those cases the accounts get unfrozen pretty fast). However, I don't think this would be an issue with social media accounts. Sanctioned individuals use social media all the time, using their real names/identities without any issues.

  • Connections from "North Korea" will always be an instant red flag for cyber crime, but who's
going to access their bank/social media/"important service from one of Calin's servers? 🤷‍♀️

GitHub, Slack and Coinbase for example have done so in the past. Many services are also inaccessible from sanctioned countries, even free services.

Financial institutions will also block accounts if they suspect they are being used from sanctioned countries.

HTTP 451 (Unavailable For Legal Reasons) would be more suitable.
