Reliable VPS in Europe
Hello guys,
I'm currently using an BuyVM 512 instance for 7 or 8 years now and I am at a point where my usecase is outgrowing this server. Although the server is running great (I think I never had bigger outages in this almost decade) I am not sure if upgrading is worth it. Their packages have quite limited storage.
Does anyone has recommendations for me:
1 CPU (I don't care about brand or speed, can be Ryzen aswell as an older Xeon)
1-2 GB RAM
25 GB SSD
500 GB @ 1 GBit/s would be more than sufficient
1 IPv4 and 1 IPv6 (IPv6 subnet would be a big plus)
Location: Europe is a must, preferably France, Benelux, Germany, Autria or Switzerland
An option to create snapshots of the VPS in panel would be great.
Provider has to be in business for some time and I'm not interested in One-Man-Shows.
This Netcup offer looks promising but I've concerned about the recent "outage" about them.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention my budget: I would like to keep it kind of cheap (3 Euro, $3,20) per month. Would pay extra for premium features. Paying monthly or yearly is fine.

What about:
Layer7 — €3.28 / month
2 Intel Cores (shared)

25600 GB/month bandwidth
1.0 Gbps port speed
IPv4 + IPv6

Hello, if you are looking in Europe, it could be London, we have Ryzen 7950x3d servers with a permanent 50% discount.
If you are fine with LXC @sthosting would be an option (their KVM offers are way above your budget even with yearly billing):
https://st-hosting.com/nvme-lxc-vserver
Either 1 vCore/1GB RAM/20GB NVMe at 2,39€/m (monthly billing - would be 2,19€/m with yearly cycle) or 1 vCore/2GB RAM/35GB NVMe at 3,10€/m (yearly billing).
Location is Germany (Frankfurt). I haven't used their LXC VPS but going be the KVM performance they are very reliable. Support is responsive, friendly and helpful.
If you are located outside the EU you might be able to get them to drop the 19% German VAT but i'm not sure if they actively price that in or just consider their pricing final regardless of VAT differences.
We can offer your requirements for 2,95€/month:
1 vCore (AMD Epyc 9454P)
2GB DDR5 RAM
25GB NVMe Storage
1x IPv4-address
1x IPv6 /64
Fair-Use Traffic (~1TB @ 2.5Gbit/s)
3 Backups included

Out of these providers listed I'd basically only choose Hetzner if you want to avoid headaches, big +1 for their cloud instances.
Or if waiting is not an option I would suggest going with BudgetKVMDE-2, it's in stock:
4096MB RAM
2048MB SWAP
35GB SSD RAID-10 Hard drive
2 cores @ E5v4 CPU

Had a DE vps from greencloud for over a year now, no major issues, no downtimes, recommended.
Yeah, if reliable is the objective it's probably best to avoid super-cheap-almost-too-good-to-be-true offers. From what i read Greencloud seems to have quite a good track record though and i can personally vouch for @sthosting providing pretty reliable service for years (even if i personally probably wouldn't get a LXC VPS but i guess some people might care less about the virtualization type - last month's 35€/y KVM promo would have been great for OP but sadly he's 2 weeks late). Also InceptionHosting is basically a brand of @Clouvider these days i think, which should be pretty solid too.
Greencloud is okay, I just remember them having network issues in some of their locations that they weren't able to fix quickly, I assume due to them not using their own network in most of their locations. Inception hosting is pretty good as well, I just try to avoid clouvider nowadays. Solid performance and good uptime though.
I see. Well, that would probably remove them from my personal reliable list for some time until they prove to be over those problems. I can't even remember from the top of my head how many years i've been with @sthosting now but i can basically count network degradation incidents with 3 fingers and all of them were fixed in a couple hours. Only relevant downtime was due to a failed switch causing complications during replacement a couple years ago but even that only took like 10h until full recovery with regular progress updates being posted. That's stuff i can subsume under shit happens but ongoing problems with no clear ETA for resolution are not so much my cup of tea.
Yeah, they seem to rub some people the wrong way but personally i don't see why working with them could be somehow problematic for me. If some provider's offers don't suit me and there's no possibility of talking it out in a ticket i usually just move on anyways. If i feel the experience was downright horrible with the provider being unrealistic i might make a thread to warn people but at that point i'll be long gone. Given my years of jumping at random bottom of the barrel offers are pretty much behind me chances of such a situation are slim though.
Stay with buyvm and pay more or move to hetzner and pay more. Trying to find the best deal as above will just get you instability, performance issues and regret.
Edit: misunderstood. But yes, Hetzner.
But yeah, go with Hetzner. I’d go for the CPX11 in your case if you’re used to good single core performance. If you don’t need that, CX22 for double the RAM (4 GB) for less than the CPX11.
Thanks guys, although Hetzner is way above my targeted budget I think I'll go with them. Reliability is really important for this one so I'll invest a coffee per month to have peace of mind.
Good choice.
Excellent choice
Herzner is a premium provider
@heartbeat_IT is running a promotion €12/quarter

Yep, then a large provider with their own DC with the finances to handle shit that goes wrong is a good choice.
Maybe you check our offers which are coming shortly!
Can't go wrong with Hetzner
Is there a test IP available
