If you start over, apart from whmcs, would you choose blesta or clientexec

I want to know if you are now in 2024
If you were asked to start over, would you choose Blesta or ClientExec, both are great
There are many other billing systems that we will not discuss, for now choose one of these two, which one would you choose and why

    I have not used Clientexec.

    but from the looks,

Clientexec's development looks slow. (https://www.clientexec.com/change-logs last release; November 13th, 2023)
Blesta pushes a new release almost every couple of months.(https://blesta.com/blog/ last release; June 5, 2024)

I've used Blesta only, and I would not like to post my opinions here as it would obviously be biased.

I use both and I can easily say Clientexec is better than blesta. Their update cycle is slow but its more comprehensive and robust. Chaning things like package activation, associating it with different server is very easy with CE. The blesta has open code so it might help you if custom plugin is desired. For me CE interface and usage is more modern.

Anyone can throw a vague comment like that.

    Explain why and why not.

I would still pick whmcs, I tried blesta and used it since Jan and migrated to whmcs last month on 25th May. I've enjoyed my experience with whmcs so far since then.

There were some things like whmcs was more customizable. I could easily edit any details under a service but it was barely editable in blesta. And I hated that I couldn't get proper emails on sales, Now on WHMCS I can highly configure it and I get emails on a more broad range of details.

Just a lot of things that were better on WHMCS than Blesta. Can't be bothered to even explain everything on why I migrated to WHMCS.

That's the very same reason I prefer CE. Plus the price also has an edge over WHMCS. CE is way cheaper, especially with one one-time owned license. And one more thing, the CE search feature is way superior to Blesta. I can hardly search correctly in Blesta whereas CE search bar shows results in real time.

I personally like ce and look forward to 7.0. To be precise, it now meets the functions required for normal operation, and the user interface is great.

Blesta always feels a bit strange to use. Whmcs is too expensive for me.

I can't help but wonder if that's something with a relatively simple fix - time.

If you were to approach someone who has been using Blesta for years, chances are they'd feel at home, nothing strange about it. And likewise, chances are WHMCS or ClientExec would feel strange to use for them.

Maybe using a different theme would help?

Maybe you are right. After using it for a long time, I get used to it and everything is fine. I have been struggling to choose Clientexec or Blesta. Both are excellent for me. Blesta is closer to WHMCS. Clientexec has good support and a more delicate and modern interface. It is updated slowly and the promised 7.0 is far from being released.

  • Try WISECP, if there is already an integration done by the team that you are looking for.

WHMCS is cheap with resellers, I currently purchased WHMCS + web hosting from Asurahosting and I paid like 11-12$ for webhosting (yearly) so now all I need to pay for is WHMCS monthly 9.99 USD. WHMCS still provides support for users who buy whmcs from resellers so its fine.

I've heard HostBill is good but how does it compare to WHMCS (putting pricing aside)?

And as far pricing, I understand HostBill is the most expensive of all.

I was always a big fan of WHMCS starting up back in 2011 doing MC hosting and stuff like that, now I would prefer to build my own so you can customize it however you want without the headache of fitting into the box WHMCS created. Now if I did not know how to build my own, then I would look more at the APIs of the systems, the better the API the more you can do with it later

For background, DartNode built its own control panel/ billing solution because we wanted more freedom later without the headache of "How can I make this work in WHMCS". But I will say, WHMCS can do a lot out of the box. I have not used any of the other ones you mentioned.

Hb provided custom coding service which helps to customize software a lot. That’s main benefit vs whmcs.

Aside from custom coding, if someone's going to use the default either way, how does HB compare with WHMCS?

I would say it is the billing model they have, from what I can see it is a one-time payment, WHMCS used to have a lifetime license for like $499 which was great! Now all the panels want to charge per customer/ block of customers, making it painful to grow.

I get that. HostBill still offers a lifetime plan. But my question is HostBill vs. WHMCS after putting aside the pricing issue.
