Server for Hosting +800 DirectAdmin Accounts
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in the process of selecting a server for web hosting and would appreciate some advice. I need a server that can efficiently handle around 800 DirectAdmin accounts, most of which are low-traffic WordPress sites. The goal is to consolidate these 800 accounts onto a single server, while also ensuring it has the capacity to add more accounts in the future.
Within my budget range, I have seen options such as the following:
Dual Xeon 2690v4
Ryzen 7600
Ryzen 7700
For secure storage, I am going to opt for NVMe since the amount of data is slightly less than 1TB. I am also likely to install Proxmox and then create one large VPS to perform regular snapshots (in addition to incremental backups with JetBackup).
Given these specifications, which setup would you recommend for optimal performance and stability? If you have any other suggestions or experiences with similar setups, please share them as well.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Rather than seeking datacenter recommendations, I would like to know your experiences regarding whether a dual Xeon offers better performance for this purpose, or if a Ryzen with fewer cores but higher frequency is a better option.
Personally if you plan on doing this long term and not migrating multiple times I would go the Ryzen 7950x or 3d route talk with some hosts and see what they can do most will discount or work out a deal for a longer term commitment.
Performance on the 7950x3D is quite a bit better than a Dual E5-2690v4
From our testing it's single core performance is like 40-50% better
Multicore is not quite as much around 65-70% better depending on the tests.
I would always go Ryzen or EPYC, but 800 accounts on 1 server sounds like a big SPOF to me.
Thank you for the recommendation, however, I think the 7950X tends to exceed my budget. It usually costs much more than a similar configuration with, for example, dual Xeon 2680v4 or 2690v4. I can only pay month to month, so it's difficult to obtain a discount that way.
Look for the 5000 (5950X) series too. The performance is still excellent. With NVMe you’ll be set for a long time based on your first post.
get a server from hetzner, ryzen, $40/mo, 16 or 24 cores, and you can easily host 1500 directadmin accounts on it.
