Bare metal doesn't have vCores! Buyer beware!
Intel XEON E5-2683v4 has 16 cores = 32 HT = 32 vCores
it is possible 8 vCores (== 4 physical cores) are dedicated to the VPS, along with memory.
could be 1/4 of the dedicated server node --> dedicated VPS
definitely lack of clarity here
I don't think those are called vCores. It's rather threads but you are still very much correct in that allocating a thread is what's usually sold as a dedicated core though.
Wow, that's somewhat crazy. I didn't really look into this at all. The "Buyer beware!" was pretty much just pointless trolling but looking at it this way it might even make some actual sense!
I agree, but that is the terminology used by vendor for VPS.
2 vCores dedicated = 1 physical core dedicated
1 vCore dedicated = 1 HT dediacted
And I learned my lesson hard way as 1 vCore dedicated could result in poor performance and "vendor" (Ho******) agreed that 1 dedicated vCore could result in varying performance (all depends how is other HT used by other VPS)
So, if you are looking for dedicated vCores, make sure physical cores are actually pinned to the VPS, otherwise go for fair shared vCores
Some vendor do not like my analysis for "clear reasons".
I just present numbers and still some vendors consider it "trolling", "slam" and other beautiful adjectives
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. HT is just a very low level kind of virtualization after all and not actually 2 full hardware cores, so each thread has to be somewhat cooperative with the other, which means only even numbers of vCores will ever be truly 100% dedicated (and even then only if the provider configured them correctly).
@dev_vps exactly! Very good analysis.
I describe myself as a mathematician first then data engineer
-- I teach AP calculus and JEE mathematics
It makes sense!
I would definitely recommend Avoro.
