Do your servers have i2p nodes?

Hi LET!

I think I saw a few comments about i2p node yesterday. I am curious: How popular is i2p here these days?

For reference, an i2pd node on vultr's 1vCPU 512MB free tier cost me 15-20% cpu and 1TB outbound with 512kb/s i2pd bandwidth limit. Standard medium is 256kb/s. Stock limit is 32kb/s or sth.

Do your servers have i2p nodes?
  1. Yes, i2p41 votes
    1. Yes, i2pd
      19.51%
    2. Yes, i2p+
        4.88%
    3. No, against TOS
      14.63%
    4. No, never heard of it
      34.15%
    5. No, just don't want
      26.83%

Unfortunately. Better than nothing I suppose, and the official java i2p package was too resource heavy, I don't think much would have chosen it anyway.

The i2pd thingy is lighter on the CPU.

But I don't see the point in any of this.

  • I do Tor, I2PD, and Yggdrasil

By this step, I feel a poll about our favorite shitcoin is afoot.

Expand on this please? Thank you. I didnt know they had anything for free.

  • Is there any reason for I2P to violate the TOS?

Can use a ton of bandwidth if not configured properly.

  • I have used @Francisco and @DataIdeas-Josh for I2P and Yggdrasil and both told me it was fine!

    Yes.

In fact, our network is used as the default outproxy for I2P+ and we run a lot of services like tube.i2p to mirror clear net functionality. Tube.i2p being a great YouTube proxy, for example.

Privacy alt-nets is our bread and butter .

How much it is abused comparing to Tor exit nodes?

If there's a policy on banning i2p. Also, after just 6 hrs of my i2p node, my VPS IP was banned by the great firewall of China. This might also cause some TOS issues.

Lighter on CPU and RAM. Its not like I have much of either.
I think you would want a less resource-intensive solution if possible, wouldn't you?

Credit card and 2FA required tho, and 1yr only. $3/mo after that, it seems.

Only "provider" I know who does this is @Neoon and for him, it's probably as said already bandwidth and just wanting to be sure of a technology he might not be fully aware of? (e.g. thinking everything on tor/i2p is illegal/unsafe ig)

The Point is, you should use the Free VPS for something useful, setting up a VPN or a Traffic Relay or Proxy like TOR or I2P is just burning traffic for nothing.

You can spend money and buy yourself a server.

I2P and TOR is allowed. We just ask that you follow the AUP to help on the abuse.

I get that part. You see though, there's more to tor/i2p than running a relay, e.g. hidden services.
