  • My wife had me take out more life insurance and now there's no grip left on the bath mat. Weird.

  • Does your skin feel burnt? Because I think you must have just fallen down from heaven, and re-entry gave you a tan.

WELCOME TO PAGE 573 - FRANK IS BACK AT THE PARTY !!!

    @FrankZ ping

    Hi Tom (waves)

I am so grateful for this thread! Now I understand that this thread is a much faster and better way for LET Members to keep in touch than PMs or Discord!

This thread's cycle rate is so fast! I wonder if we could implement an Operating System atop this thread. People could get thread-powered VPSes!

I bet Bellard could port Qemu to run on this thread!

The only issue I see would be how to ensure consistent operation of each system call as each system call is used repeatedly here in our kernel thread.

Already ping has demonstrated that our LET thread kernel works great to enable user level processes to communicate with each other.

Just a little bit more, and we will have our entire New LET Age of Computing up and running! :star:

    Let's try multi-threaded operation! @chitree ping! @dustinc ping!

Hi @Not_Oles -- Thank You for joining our New Year party thread :) And I agree, this thread is full of energy!

I hope all is well over there. We definitely need to catch up. What's new in your world?

    Thanked by 1Not_Oles

  • During WWI, Kotex was first manufactured as bandages.

No, they didn’t actually use the pads. However, the material used for these bandages (cellucotton) was what eventually became the first Kotex pad in 1919.

  • Drinking coffee in Turkey was once punishable by death.

In 1633, The Ottoman Sultan Murad IV beheaded anyone he saw drinking coffee in public. Aside from coffee being seen as a mild narcotic back then for its stimulating properties, Murad IV believed that coffee shops could encourage dangerous thoughts or speech against his rulership.

  • The Speaker of the House isn’t allowed to speak in England.

Okay, not literally. Instead, the Speaker of the House acts as a mediator for debates. They are not allowed to speak their own opinion on an issue.

  • Crocodile poop was the first contraceptive.

The Ancient Egyptians certainly had a unique way of doing things. One of the fun facts about Egypt is how they practiced safe sex: Women would insert crocodile dung into their vagina. (Uh, fun?!) The science was that it would soften when it reached body temperature, forming a barrier.

  • The youngest Pope elected was 11 years old.

Pope Benedict IX was one of the most controversial Popes – people aren’t even sure when he was elected as the Pope. however, the choices were 20, 11, or 12. If that were true, he was the youngest Pope.
