Hi,
I'm going to backpack in Thailand and want to have a private VPN setup on a VPS.
Which location is the best? With good capacity and netwerk.
Needs to be a small VPS around 15-20 dollar a year.

I'm assuming you want to bypass Thailand's firewall blocks of certain sites. You can run WireGuard or OpenVPN on https://hosting.gullo.me/pricing NAT VPS. $5/yr. Closest location is Singapore. I can confirm this works fine with AIS, DTAC mobile and most Thai ISPs.
VPSs within Thailand are pretty expensive.

Wrong way.
Best location is Singapore, around 30ms ping. But Thailand has good connectivity to Europe too. Less than 200ms ping to the Netherlands and Germany. It doesn't feel slow for a VPN.
To be fair, all things considered, San Jose is basically Thailand.

I tried their 128mb vps and my openvpn started smoothly within 3 active user.
I think is the same, if you want to try, i'll give you a test server
SGP has better international connectivity than any other option here, find a provider that has good Thai peering. (Put the Test IPs into https://www.jsdelivr.com/globalping)
