BTW, been meaning to ask, what algorithm does Similar Comments on the Stats page use. I am asking cause it seems pretty efficient, cause, it doesn't seem to be considering my comments with same Headings (for eg.- I add FACEBOOK FACTS to every post about Facebook). Based on my similar comment count, I can see that, those headings do not contribute to similar counts. I am guessing you have set a threshold of words or phrases. Only when that threshold of words is used similarly over comments, it becomes a similar comment.
I might be way off here, was just curious. Anyways, if it's part of the trade secret, it's ok.

I have already mentioned in BF thread. Similarity is checked using Levenshtein distance. If the distance is less than 4 (for those short messages with only emoticons, etc), or message is 90% similar to any previous message by the same member, it is marked as similar.

I have also mentioned, that since CF has blocked the json endpoint, this similarity check is showing a bit incorrect data, because now instead of message as markdown I get message as html, so all quote filtering, image handling and so on is not working, so word count and similarity might show incorrect data. I hope I will find some time this week to fix these issues :)

    Thanked by 1noob404
