OpenVZ??
Yes, we use OpenVZ 7.
He probably meant, why the heck are you still using OpenVZ??
OpenVZ 7 runs on either RHEL 7 or CentOS 7.
Based on the cheap price, the provider is likely using CentOS 7 that has no license cost.
CentOS 7 is reaching @eol on 2024-06-30.
The provider is planning on a lengthy downtime for "migration" shortly after that date, which will probably turn into a @deadpool.
Whoever buying the service now is going to be scammed.
KVM is coming in Q1 2024.
There's two things that we're waiting on, one of which is network related, and one software related. What we're planning to do isn't technically possible right now, and the plan is to get it right from day one, so waiting is very much worth it.
ChicagoVPS and others still offer OpenVZ, I suppose they'll keep running past EOL. If I'm not mistaken other OpenVZ releases had been supported past RHEL EOL.
BTW $0.80 per tree is fantastic, in Italy planting a tree is 1000€ each. Can't believe I've been overpaying so much. Thank you for saving us all with a tiny sacrifice to mother nature. Today's sacrifices no longer have priests but a lot of marketing and state propaganda. Cool job for sure.
