BTW, if you guys could choose between the Acer 3050 laptop and Xbox 1X, which one would you go for?

I would go for laptop, reason: i am a PC gamer so have nothing to do with xbox and my current laptop is dying(already died multiple times) i mean it's already 8 years old.

Mine's exactly 8 years old, as well. i5-5200U. It's a Dell, which has served me very well. Been thinking of retiring it, recently.

Old hardware last longer. I'm still rocking a AMD A4-5000 from 2013 and it runs fine.

Two words for hardware today - "Planned obsolescence"

Exactly. Although Sony was the first to do that in 2007.

I didn't know that. I always assumed it was Apple. With what hardware did Sony introduce the evil?

Sony started the idea by making the ribbon cable coating fall apart after 13 to 14 months right after the warranty ran out. Then they would tell you that the MB was bad and charge $1300 to replace it. So people just bought a new one. The real problem was just $5 worth of ribbon cables.

Exactly, and before that the ribbon cables were like top notch quality even if your hardware damaged the ribbon cables were fine(happened with pavilion g4)

Yes, they had a great reputation for durability before 2007, and then they did this. You knew it was planned because tech support would automatically tell people it was their MB that needed to be replaced.

Well something similar happened with my asus in 2016 the service center said the soldered ram was damaged and i will need to replace the entire board for that, but thankfully i remembered i had a complete protection plan from asus for two years so kida got it done for free, i still think why solder ram on board when you can just have the ram slots.

Lol same CPU, just mines from Asus and i can't find the parts nowadays not even screws, idk why they use these long star screws for this x556 series.

Screws? Mine's been going screwless for 3 years now. Those laptops, if not powerful were sturdy, as hell.

Mines not sturdy, chassis falling apart, i am using a different laptop's fan(modding DIY), the USB 3 port died early, that was not as expected.

Okay, bro. You can have the laptop. But, how are you going to get it to your place? I mean international shipping.

The same way, i use parcel forwarding service and pay the import taxes, it's fine :) DM me if you want the referral for $10 off on your first shipping :)

Sure, anyways PM me that. Won't be using anytime soon, but, if I do, will definitely signup with your links. But, how's the customs duty in your country? In mine, it's unpredictable.

Well if you know the tax rates and import codes everything works flawless for me it's about 18%-28% on the product value + shipping charge and if somehow you forget the bill they will assume the price to be highest on the segment.

If you don't mind me asking and if you don't mind revealing, what region are you from? For me (India), I have seen the customs charge upto 110-150% of the item.

    I am from India bro :D :D

HP did this to me once in 2012. Tried to charge me $300 for MB replacement. Took it to a local repair shop. Got it repaired and got a new keyboard for $40!

The reason I can't ship here is that customs does not care about the invoice price. They use retail list price, or if they can not find that they determine what it is worth (always higher than list) and charge tax on that price. Then you need to pay a customs broker to pick it up from customs and carry it to a local shipper to send it to you. Who will then lose it and say it was already delivered.

I ship to a friend who brings it to me when they come to visit.

I've floated the solder on a few gpus on notebooks when the video stopped working, just need a heat gun. New life to old equipment for the giveaway market

Well that's what i am thinking if it ever happens again imma remove the entire ram from board.

LOL! I didn't know. Then, be careful. You better get it in the hands of a relative or something and then get it to India.

Well it's not the first time i am importing something from overseas, i know my ways in this and i believe i won't be paying more than 28% for anything i import(specially in electronics).

Guru, please teach me as well, cause I have been charged with ridiculous fees earlier.

You can always reach out to me before proceeding with any import order, will surely help you out to the best of my knowledge.

Thank you, bro. Will get in touch.

Insurance is a racket in Mexico. They don't pay you anything, they just collect money. We have a very weak consumer protection system here.

Well that's the reason, i always insure my parcels and only pick those who provide realtime tracking, you can't be sure about others.

Insurance in Mexico, surely you jest.

Well insurance kinda depends on the logistics company, tbh most overseas companies proceed with insurance as an optional addon people just ignore that to save some bucks here and there.

Insurance is a racket in Mexico. They don't pay you anything, they just collect money. We have a very weak consumer protection system here.

Something new I learned about Mexico, by the way, the insurance is usually from the MNCs In my case if I decide to go with Fedex or Aramex they both provide me insurance just in case while some of the vendors don't do it at all.

Sure, anytime, just don't ping me at night :D

You know that you can set the alarm yourself, right ?
It does not need to be done remotely
