Some handy features there.
PayPal Payments
Replaces the previous PayPal Basic and PayPal Checkout integrations.PayPal Card Payments
Replaces the PayPal Payments Pro and PayFlow Pro integrations.
I suppose my question would be - how does WHMCS handle this on upgrades, given the term "replace" is used - will it be fully automatic or will manual intervention be required?

Comments
So fixing the payment method became a release now not a patch or fix
What is the practical differences between the previous PayPal options and the new replacement PayPal options?
Yearly whmcs update done! See you guys next year!
No noteable features, Look like a patch only.
What's with PayPal subscriptions requiring a linked card or bank account?
Has anyone else noticed this recently?
Some providers / services force recurring payments, which is annoying, and even if you have a significant PayPal balance, you're forced to pay the subscription with a card or bank which is absolutely insane that PayPal won't let you use your balance.
If this WHMCS PayPal update forces this then be aware that it may impact your sales since many customers won't want to deal with that. (Or maybe it's just me that avoids any plan/service that defaults to a card/bank even when I have those same cards linked to my PayPal account that has enough balance already. I want to spend my balance first!)
So just the beta edition for testing and sharing the user experience. PayPal subscription payments are quiet useful but need to test if it is fully functions with automatic cancellations.
Yeah, We had an online meeting with the PayPal integration team regarding those "Subscription" issues, as PayPal forced us to use their "Paypal Checkout" payment method. we provided a test user to check the issue. They were very surprised and said, that it was a probably WHMCS issue.
It was not possible to pay without a subscription via Paypal Checkout and probably WHMCS released some fixes. Finally.
Which version of PHP does whmcs support with this release?
7.2 - 8.1
Here's the latest news regarding 8.2: https://whmcs.community/topic/327927-php-82/#comment-1400913
I've noticed it outside of WHMCS as well. For example, Virtualizor, who has their own billing platform of sorts.
I used to have recurring subscriptions with them that I never paid attention to. Then when doing some billing auditing found that I was paying like $200/mo extra to Virtualizor and some licenses were getting billed multiple times each month. Could have been my fault, unsure, they didn't want to credit us for months of over payments. So I cancelled all PayPal subscriptions and only pay our licenses manually, which quite frankly is a huge pain in the ass. Even if I wanted to renew subscriptions, it defaults/forces you to charge your bank or card on file first, which defeats the purpose of maintaining a PayPal balance. You'd expect subscriptions via PayPal to use the PayPal balance first, and if you don't have enough balance to cover a charge it then uses the card or bank on file, whichever the user chooses.
