    Yikes! Must've been a write-heavy weekend. Zero-disk space mornings are fun :P. Dealt with it a few times at work as well. What do you guys use for monitoring? PRTG can notify on low disk space. The < X% warnings are useful.

    I would always estimate, how much I really need, and then add a bit of reserve. e.g. If I know, that I need 2GB for sure, I would take 2.5GB RAM at least.

    For the Nextcloud it depends on how much space do you really need. I personally have my home lab server with 10TB of RaidZ2, have given my OwnCloud VM 500GB, its only 200GB used, so have plenty of storage left :) Since I had my own server, I decided not to use any of the cloud storage and use my own. So I don't have to pay for GDrive, OneDrive or any other backup solution. On mine and my wife's phones I have set up to backup all photos and videos to my OwnCloud and am completely sure that I have at least 3 copies of everything (1st copy on phone, 2nd on my OwnCloud, 3rd - borg backup to AlphaVPS storage VM :) ).

    RaidZ2, sweet! I just use RAID5. How are you finding ZFS? I'd like to move towards that, but it requires a whole rework and transferring data off and back on.

    Wait for Chef Flash deals (likely around Nov 25). I am sure you will get a suitable plan then, for cheaper.

    There should also start a BF Megathred, so maybe you can find something that fits your needs there ;) Noone is forced to marry only one provider really :) Its always a combination of trust in the provider, location of the available offers, and the offer combination itself ;)

    Can you clarify what you guys mean by "Chef Flash deals"?

    Sadly, I didn't start with monitoring on my machines yet, and what do they use in my company, I don't know. But I know, it doesn't work as supposed... :)

    The worst thing this time was that solr indexes got corrupted and we needed to reindex everything. Other than that, cleaning some log files and restarting some services helped :)
