  • Happy 10th Birthday!

  • @NDTN Do you support installation via ISO or KVM image (.qcow2)? :) I'm not seeing anything immediately one way or the other, and no refunds means I gotta make sure :(

The offers looked good. Sadly I was too late for the 1010 deals.
The prizes looks good. Sadly I'm too lazy to pump out "tickets".

This will be my only chance. I guess this goes to show if luck is really a thing.

    That GB6 score looks solid.

New EPYC's single core just insane

    Are they Milan or Genoa?

EPYC 7763 is Milan. GreenCloudVPS don't have any EPYC Genoa VPSes on sale during this sale. I don't think any provider would sell VPSes with new CPUs this cheap.

Buying the old EPYCs (which are still very good) second-hand is a lot cheaper than buying them new. That EPYC 7763 was $7,890 at launch! but you can find them second-hand for $1,500-$2,000.

It makes sense. Wow, prices went down fast!

This is very often the case. All I can suggest is making sure you schedule yourself some personal decompression time each day before and/or after work (video games, TV, programming, whatever you enjoy). And do not let anyone intrude on that time!

Self-care is important. Make sure you take care of your stress so you're around here as long as possible. :)

I think support will mount an ISO for you if you provide the download URL.

What I usually do to avoid bothering support is use grub-imageboot. Install Debian and do this:

    apt install grub-imageboot

    # Download netboot.xyz ISO
    mkdir /boot/images
    cd /boot/images
    wget https://boot.netboot.xyz/ipxe/netboot.xyz.iso

    # Update GRUB menu to include this ISO
    update-grub2
    reboot

    (copied from https://netboot.xyz/docs/booting/grub/ which I wrote 😛)

Then you'll find netboot.xyz in the boot menu. Boot into netboot.xyz, select the option to install a Linux distro, then select your favourite distro from its installation boot menu

I wouldn't use grub-imageboot with a Linux install ISO, since formatting the drive during installation wipes away the ISO, and deleting an ISO while you're reading from it is a bad idea 😂. netboot.xyz is all in RAM so it's not a problem.

Haha last time I did something like that, I horked things horribly. Turned out the provider did a weird and was like trying to inject things into the filesystem or something (which didn't work since I was using a different filesystem than the thing started as... one of the joys of Linux, right there, eh?). I, of course, found that all kinds of suspicious and moved on, so I can't remember who it was anymore. Probably long since deadpooled 💀
