WHMCS works if you have fewer clients at higher margins. I’m waiting for the day it changed to ‘per product’ instead of ‘per client’

Thanks, you gave them a hint and now our future is screwed.

Does php 7 have any major security issues yet because I see these for php 8 all the time https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-3824

Officially its EOL, currently you can still get non official updates.
    Either free or paid.

I would not risk it though, longterm, to cheap out on that.
Especially, if you run a billing system...

The software I coded 9 years ago, on PHP 7.0, still runs on PHP 8+.
No idea if WHCMS is more legacy than my code, apparently it is.

I wonder how many lifetime licenses were kicking around to pull the plug on it.

There must have been a fair few.

I was paying $120 a year for support / updates

Now it’s gone up slightly, but I don’t use it 💯 for hosting.

  • I've always been interested in Hostbill but never put up the cash to buy it. Blesta is nice but it's not as easy to get running as WHMCS. I frequently have to pull up guides on configuring certain items on Blesta. I know ClientExec always seems to be the odd man out especially because they can't hit roadmap deadlines, but I am very happy with that panel due to it's ease of use and overall look and feel.

hahahahaha proper developer to ONLY maintain new system would cost much much much more than $100/m

either way, if $100/m, or even $1000/m, for billing software that effectively manages whole business for you is a problem you should close down the business in the first place.

This misses the point so hard. Like missing a planet with a rocket.

The point is about lousy business practices. Selling owned licenses with a clear ToS and contract explaining what an owned license is then years later changing it.

Well, everyone starts wirh whmcs. 0.3% from all starters grow up to custom solution. As a starter, whmcs is good.

I have seen at least one titan (big provider) changing into Blesta. If they can, you too. Having all the code available to you (as the customer) is a massive advantage.

    Hardly.
Having the code will never be a disadvantage.
Fairly simple to contract someone experienced to improve it. Plus with all the AI evolution we are having now and that will continue to happen, it will get easier for non-devs to develop or improve existing products.

I think you misunderstood. I mean until the code is no longer available to you :-)

Sorry. Yes I thought that was a weird take/opinion. Good to know is not that.

In regards to that, like in the case of Blesta, let's say that from a point onward code is closed, you still have the previous code to defend yourself.
