Feedback on bare metal plans
Hi,
I'm planning our expansion into the dedicated server market and looking for some feedback on potential plans.
I'd prefer EPYC boxes over Ryzen due to the reliability and expansion but I see that there's demand for the high clock speed of Ryzen boxes.
I was thinking of those configurations as our entry-level lineup
Metal Ryzen
Ryzen 5700X/ 5800X (8 Cores / 16 Threads)
64GB DDR4 3200 ECC
2x 1TB NVMe
1 Gbit/s uplink with about 10TB traffic
59€ per month
Metal EPYC
Metal EPYC
EPYC 7302P / 7282 (16 Cores / 32 Threads)
64GB DDR4 3200 ECC
2x 960GB Datacenter NVMe
1 Gbit/s uplink with about 10TB traffic
59€ per month
Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany
All dedicated servers would include features like BGP, BYOIP for free.
VLANs between multiple boxes are no problem either.
Would those boxes be of interest to you?
Or do you have some other specific configurations in mind you'd like to see?
Looking forward to your feedback
Thanks!

"NVMe / 10GBPs KVM in Frankfurt" ❤
I would grab that EPYC pretty quickly..
There seems to be some confusion as to ECC support for Ryzen. I think because some motherboards say they support ECC, and then in fine print says without ECC function.
I got the impression that ECC is only really supported by Ryzen PRO variants.
Edit: looks like APU versions need PRO variant for ECC.
If all goes well it will be available later this month
I think the regular versions inofficially support it as well
But also depends on the motherboard
But yea, it's not super clear and I think its not officially tested either
I'd prefer epyc over ryzen. One concern that pops up in my mind is memory channels. If you use 32g rams, that only populates 2/8 channels of an epyc cpu. Not sure if this will have any impact on performance. Also I'd expect more traffic on dedicated servers in EU, but the price looks very fair!
Yep I already considered that, we’d either have to go with 16GB DIMMs or increase the price a few € and deploy 128GB by default
